Considering trains are extremely large, extremely loud and can only travel in a straight line on a very obvious route, I never can understand how pedestrians get killed by them!

similar accident in Robins just a week ago or so. except it was a car vs train in an uncontrolled crossing with good visibility both ways. Teen victim.

IIRC, I heard something like a person a day intentionally offs themself by jumping in front of a train.
Was my first thought, but in this case, it sounds like he was working at the time. I wonder if he had earphones or something else preventing him from hearing on.
 
I can remember a couple of incidents in Prairie du Chien, involving people standing on one set of tracks waiting for a train to pass on an adjacent set of tracks, unaware that a train was approaching on the “empty” set of tracks.
