IIRC, I heard something like a person a day intentionally offs themself by jumping in front of a train.

similar accident in Robins just a week ago or so. except it was a car vs train in an uncontrolled crossing with good visibility both ways. Teen victim.

Was my first thought, but in this case, it sounds like he was working at the time. I wonder if he had earphones or something else preventing him from hearing on.

I can remember a couple of incidents in Prairie du Chien, involving people standing on one set of tracks waiting for a train to pass on an adjacent set of tracks, unaware that a train was approaching on the “empty” set of tracks.

Not to my knowledge. It was the passenger with the most serious, very serious, injuries per reports.

I don't have any first hand info though

When I was commuting into downtown Chicago via Metra for work, there would be an incident like this a few times a year it seemed. The assumption was that it was almost certainly suicidal intent.
