Pretty good group of blue-blooded, mega-winning schools, right? After five weeks of play, each of these teams has two losses, or in Notre Dame’s case, more.

A couple of other little notes: Christian McCaffrey rushed for 49 yards this week, in a Stanford loss to Washington. And, do we remember that Northwestern won ten games last year?

To my wild-eyed, mean-spirited, fear-mongering, end-of-the-world, fire-Ferentz friends on this board (not to be confused with my clear-eyed, disappointed, solution-seeking friends on this board), may I remind you that this is football? That someone wins and someone loses every week? That 12-0 comes once in a century, if you are lucky? May I repeat that? Once in a CENTURY?

Is it fair to be disappointed? Of course. Is it fair to expect to see determined growth, accountability and reasonable success? Of course.

Okay – I will admit my bias. As the son of a Division I Head Football Coach, I’ve lived the other side of this. I love our guys and I love our coaches. I love what they give and sacrifice on behalf of us all. Like many of you, though, I was so disappointed at the game last Saturday that I felt like a house fell on top of me. I believe that was nothing compared to what our players, coaches and their wives felt. But in a few minutes I got some perspective and gratitude back, as I hope they and we will do - as we move forward with grit and resolve, as our Iowa Hawkeyes always do. Let’s not turn on our football family quite so soon. That's not what you do to family. Tough love, if you have to. But family first. Go Hawks!

Good post, but I must add, that for a school that's nationally known for turning out Pro offensive lineman, what the hell has happened ? Like someone else said, this line couldn't block a team of girlscouts.

Point taken but only some of the teams on the list are blue bloods...

1921, 1922 were undefeated but not 12-0. So technically, once a century is correct. :)

Notre Dame Lost to Texas, Michigan State, & Duke.
Florida State lost to Louisville, & North Carolina
MSU lost to Wisconsin & Indiana
Auburn lost to Clemson & Texas A&M
LSU lost to Wisconsin & Auburn
Georgia lost to Ole Miss & Tennessee
Ole Miss lost to Florida State & Alabama
Miss State lost to South Alabama & Alabama

Iowa lost to NDSU, and Northwestern....

If you can't see what's wrong with your post, I can't help you....

the hawks run defense and offensive line have been disappointing ----but they are only a couple plays/official calls from being 5-0 and we wouldn't have to listen to the incessant bitching by the reactionary fan base. unless you are ohio state or alabama the season is going to come down to winning the close games. kirk has turned things around before and i haven't given up on this team

I've had some of the same thoughts as the OP, but then I remember that we've lost to some of the worst teams on the schedule, and we were in a dog fight with Rutgers. I hope they figure it out, but if we keep playing at this level we are headed for a 6-6 season.

We also don't exactly reload like some of the teams in the OP, so it's not just one bad season but more like wasting an opportunity that doesn't come around very often to have a memorable season. It was a long wait between 2009 and 2015 and I was kind of hoping I wouldn't have to wait until 2021 for another memorable season.

I think you're missing the point. Fans are not simply unhapy with having 2 losses. Fans are pissed that we are reverting back to the consistently mediocre state that has become this program.

There is no way you can compare Iowa to ND or Oklahoma. Or any of those teams. If you look at their programs over the last 5-10 years, there is no comparison. A mediocre season season is only a bump in the road for them. For us, it is common place

Being a reasonable fan and posting something positive on this board is a dangerous thing to do. If you do my advise would be post and duck.

Yes sir mr. Tyler sir, I guess you have spoken. Dumbass. Lol so Duke is not comparable, you don't think Notre Dame should have whipped their ass? Iowa losing to Northwestern was basically two teams with a similar Talent. Your parents would have been well advised to abort. Lol

Solid post.

Out of all those losses you only called out one. Iowa has had two embarrassing losses, I'm not surprised this is ok for a moron like you though.

You make good point. But that is boat ride many of US! Have taken with CAPTAIN AT HELM.SEASICKNESS LASTS FOR DAYS.THOSE RIDES COULD HAVE GOTTEN LOVE BOAT CANCELLED AFTER ONE YEAR.THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SAD.

Not that I spend time studying every other teams schedule, do you think moron the Florida State should have been able to man handle North Carolina? I would wager to say Florida State has much more Talent then North Carolina. And what about LSU , I would bet a genius like you should be able to understand they have much more Talent then Wisconsin . Wouldn't you also think Michigan State would have more Talent than Indiana ? Since you have fully analyzed every team schedule I'm sure a brainiac like you should have realized this. Dumbass

Not every team can play Fres St, Wyo, Ore, NW, Ill. Who's your next few games? Lol, probably Ind, Pur, & Rut???
You would have a point if we had a killer schedule like Wisconsin. Pretty tough for Iowa to make fun of anyone else's schedule this year....or last year.
