Gophers men's basketball team returns to practice after pausing because of the coronavirus
NOVEMBER 14, 2020 — 10:26PM

The Gophers men’s basketball team returned to practice Saturday after pausing team activities because of COVID-19, a source told the (Minneapolis) Star Tribune.

Multiple players on both the men’s and women’s basketball teams had tested positive for the coronavirus, but they had no serious symptoms.

The Gophers men announced Tuesday that team activities were on pause, but the women had already started practicing again since last Friday.

Richard Pitino’s team is preparing to open its season Nov. 25 against Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Gophers athletes who test positive enter protocol and quarantine, but they communicate with the medical staff. They must undergo additional testing and be cleared by a physician before returning to activities.

Things probably won't go smoothly, but there is still a path to have some semblance of a season and an NCAA tourney. I'd like to have seen a modified bubble plan with a series of tournaments allowing teams to play several games in isolation. No spectators on site; essential team personnel only. It would be nearly impossible to replicate what the NBA did, unfortunately.
It allows for more potential exposures if they try to play it closer to BAU with more frequent travel to different cities and campuses.
I’d bet that by the time the tournament comes around vaccinations will be widely available.

If they delay the tourney until May, then possibly.
If it starts at the same time as usual in March, then I would doubt that. The manufacturing and logistics of distribution of millions of doses are a monumental undertaking. As the ACIP has already indicated, it will be a phased distribution starting with the the most vulnerable populations first.
Widespread, meaning anyone can start a series, will be the final piece.

Agreed. I guess I just suspect that widespread availability will be sooner than expected. I think we are gonna have upwards of 30% of our population refusing a vaccine. Making one more widely available sooner.
