Gators picked up 4 star/top 100 WR Jacob Copeland. His mom obviously didn't approve, though. His mom walked out on him when he announced for the Gators. You could see he was barely holding back tears because of it. She did come back and give him a hug, but that doesn't make up for what she did. Nothing ever will. That's just awful of mom to do something like that. She just ruined her son's most important moment of his life up to this moment. Here's the video:

kid was in tears. what an absolutely brutal thing to do. I almost always try not to judge something I see in a short clip while not knowing the circumstances or backstory.......but what could possibly make that understandable?

sad.

We don't precisely know the back-story there. It could have been that the kid was being an immature tool ... and his mom's reaction was a reflection of her disappointment in him. I don't care the moment ... if a kid is being an ass, it's okay to call him on it.

Immature tool by picking a college? Disappointed in him going to college?

Shouldn't Mom have known where he was going before the announcement? I'm guessing they had discussed it. Can't believe everyone is sticking up for the kid. He obviously pulled the wool over her eyes. What kind of kid betrays his mother's trust on national TV? Any chance Mom knows best?

Probably would have been a good idea to let her know the decision before his announcement.
Seems like everyone else knew

Mom should have known ahead of time. Kid is a tool if he decided to blind side her on National television. These school announcements have gone to kids heads. Looks to me as if he was telling her a different school and decided at the last minute to change his pick and never told his mom of the change of heart.

Mom probably felt lied to on Television in front of everyone, and clearly didn’t handle it well in the moment.

She could have held back and is partially to blame, but no way does her son get a free pass here.

Or just maybe....mom was pushing for Alabama the whole time and the kid was sold on Florida? So she was hoping he would see it her way up until the end, but when he picks Florida she knows he doesn't listen to her. She's just pissed. Nobody knows that the kid blindsided her. Give him a break!

Its things like this that make Iowa's approach to recruiting seem so much better, You know involved with character kids and involving the Parents thru the whole process . Many disappointments averted when everyone is onboard . This kid either didn't tell the Mother or told Her Florida and she was trying to sway Him till the end. Mom should have been mature and waited till after they were off set before starting any come to Jesus moments.

There is NO back story that could support that behavior by mom. NONE!! What a selfish tool!

If he told his mom one thing, just to keep his reveal that much more of a well kept secret, so he could “shock” everyone at his announcement, then screw that. You don’t use family that way, especially your mother.

If so, that back story would support it imo. IMO, if that were the case, lucky she walked off, rather than breaking down crying in front of everyone or hitting him. I could see some moms freaking out on their sons if they did that to them.

Glad she finally returned and hugged him.

Yea who knows maybe the family is either Tennessee or Alabama alum since they were all decked out in those schools colors
she had a bama shirt and TN hat....doesn't sound like she was an alum imo

even if she was, that is no excuse to walk out like that

Maybe kids went to either of those schools idk just seemed weird they were all in those colors

And for the record I agree she should have sucked it up til the camera was off

He, not too long ago went looking for his biological mom and couldn't find her.... you can search for the story. Of course she shows up when she finds out about her baby. I bet you fellas calling the kid immature feel good now.
Based on her reaction, not surprising to hear she's a lowlife.
Really makes you wonder what bama is paying these kids families for her to get so upset with his choice!

I've often wondered how a LOI could be legal and binding if the signee is only 17, it's always been my understanding you can't make a legal contract with someone till they're 18. Does anyone know if you're under 18 do you need a parent signature too ?
