*****NY Liberty at Indiana Fever Game Thread*****

My thoughts on the Fever. They are slow and lazy. They don't seem to go after rebounds. Don't push the other team around on offense. Don't hussel going back on offense. And how the hell do you put Clark in a corner and then never try to get her the ball for a three. Their screens are terrible! Once the other teammates get the ball they seem to be dead set to not get her the ball again. It's going to be a long season and television eyes will be going down fast...

So 17,000 people paid to see CC take eight shots and the Fever get obliterated.

Fever, you just lost by 36 at home. Your reward is you now get to go play the same team in their building in two days. Have fun.

The announced attendance (total tickets distributed) was 17,274. Caitlin's former college coaches flew in for the game and sat behind the Fever bench. #22 shirts & jerseys everywhere.

The line finished at NY -8.5. NY should not be beating Indiana by 36. That should be unacceptable to everyone. The Indiana coaching staff has some explaining to do.

NY outrebounded Indy 40-26. NY had 13 offensive rebounds. That's flat out embarrassing in itself.

You're right; it's painful watching this team

Indiana's short run in the 3rd quarter occured when they looked somewhat like Iowa WBB: Caitlin in the open court, teammates hustling up the floor, lots of ball movement. After watching most of the Fever's four games this season (2 preseason/2 regular), I have concluded that Lisa Bluder was a genius at envisioning what CC was capable of if she was allowed to showcase her skills. She then implemented that plan. I doubt she would have achieved the following she did or lifted womens basketball anywhere near as much had she gone to Notre Dame or UConn.

Caitlin has a lot to learn to play at this level, especially on defense. She gets out of position, forcing a teammate to cover for her, and these pros have made them pay. But her utilization hasn't been correct, and that's on their coach. If they don't want to play to her strengths, they shouldn't have drafted her. I realize it's tough to bring in a rookie to be the center of the team, but the Fever are either incapable of or unwilling to embrace this. I'm really surprised at how bad Boston has looked in these 4 games, and the rest of the team's talent is poor at best.

CC is far from stardom in the WNBA, but the potential is there. Indiana needs to figure out a way to be competitive quickly, or they not only will be ruining their own rep, but crushing the momentum for the entire league.

All preseason, Coach Sides said that the Fever were going to be the hardest working team in the league.

I've been enjoying the CC show as much as anyone else, but the hype absolutely got ahead of reality.

Why not run double screens on Caitlin’s defender?
Unfortunately they are. Indiana doesn't set the greatest screens to begin with, but it's pretty apparent that teams have placed an emphasis from the get-go on switching and hedging everything to deny Clark.

People have talked about how they've only had a month or so to prepare for the season, but right from the jump I've seen teams be able to figure out, or at least easily pick up how to fight through screens, multiple screens even, to deny Clark from 3.

In her defense though, whoever else has the ball, isn't always ready to hit her right when she actually is open coming off of screens, and some of that goes to what others are arguing for about the Fever needing time to gel, and that lends to the old adage of defense being ahead of offense in the early part of sports seasons (take football for example).

I hope to heck she gets her act together and really gets going... Or gets a new coach or new team... However this could be potentially one of the biggest flops in history male or female... And again I'm not hoping for that , I'm really not.

I wouldn't go that far. She's played 2 games and she drastically cut her turnovers down from game 1. She hasn't shot well but we know she can shoot and it will turn around. I am not sure the coach can turn the team around, however.

It’s not a flop, she isn’t out classed, they wouldn’t guard her so tight if they thought she was trash. It’s a learning curve and her shot is marginally off.

If not lazy, super sloppy and disorganized 🤷‍♂️

And they are not a small team. But as @EvilMonkeyInTheCloset says, they definitely play small.

I will once again say, I like AB. I think she really likes Caitlyn. I think she’s done a good job of lifting her up, I loved her in the studio, I think she is engaging and smart and a really neat human being.

But I have never seen her great skills. Even in college. She has a decent shot out to 12-15ft (that she should shoot more often, rather than get it blocked deep) but her banging it down deep, only to miss or get it blocked is ridiculous. And she’s 6-5.

Multiple times Caitlyn and other teammates have got her the ball and she should’ve went straight up at 10 foot and shot the jumper but instead she tries to make a post move and misses or loses the ball🤷‍♂️

Samuelson can shoot, but is slow footed and doesn’t bring much else to the table but height.

I like Smith, but she didn’t have much of a game either and she’s also fairly slow footed.

Wheeler is wildly out of control. Berger. I have enjoyed watching play more than I thought I would, but she is kind of Caitlyn lite & throws the ball away plenty herself…

No defense, poor rebounding, not many ball handlers/drivers. Poor team…

Like I said earlier, 4 out, frenetic motion, high-low post action, with multiple cutters and tell CC, to find the open person. More action towards the hoop, let outside offense come from that.

They do not have an offense right now and their D & rebounding is even worse.

Can we now quit with the cc vs males? She is struggling with female pros.

Action toward the hoop so Boston can hit the front of the rim or turn it ovet?
