I think this is a good illustration of how they put these puzzles together: get four words that our brains are likely to “connect” as related to one another and then build four separate categories from the original set.

The other big thing, which is random to each player, is how the board gets set up in terms of word placement. That can either help or hinder you in solving the puzzle. Today, for example, it helped me.

I saw the apple, Intel, dell, kindle connection right off (tho kindle doesn't really fit, IMO, which made me leary), BUT dell was right next to valley and glen; kindle was next to torch and fire; Intel was next data and news. So, pretty quickly I realized that the computer angle was just a distraction. With a different word arrangement, that probably wouldn't have happened.

Your theory makes sense to me. The longer we live, the more experience we gain, and the more opportunities we have to understand the different ways language is used.

I notice this when talking to my kids, now aged 17-21. They are all very smart, but their “linguistic dexterity” is still somewhat limited.

True, but I think age sometimes limits me especially when it comes to popular streaming shows or characters since I still tend to watch whatever is on regular cable/satellite. Maybe that's not an age thing, maybe it's a me thing.

That's valid. If one of the categories has to do with current tv shows, it's probably going to be the last four words standing. Only need to solve for three of the four.

One of the hardest categories for me was rap subgenres: BOUNCE, CRUNK, DRILL, GRIME. My son listens to more rap that you can shake a stick at and I thought I had a pretty good handle on things. Nope.

This was extremely hard. Funny enough I got the purples first because I was trying to figure out one of the greens and it led me straight to the purple solution. That was the whole key for me unlocking this. Never would have guessed the blues, glad I didn’t need to.

Streak stays alive.

That's what I am arguing though. I think people of your age group might miss things that mine get (in my 30s) and vice versa. I don't think it really helps one way or another as far as winning goes. Just curious because I noticed I get a lot of different starting colors than others.

For example, I knew the last category and tried to even do it on my second guess. I got it in the end though! I feel like that category might trick people up.

Two skill guys in the league, one of which isn't a TE? Did you do some fancy Photoshop and switch uniforms with FSU?

This is terrible but it's three hours past my bedtime but I'm dreading the game vs NW tomorrow. They SUCK but we look terrible right now.

I knew what the blue category was right away, but

but i thought the weapon in Clue was officially a dagger and not a knife so i went with pipe instead of knife

it still has been over a week since i have had a perfect game
