I was saddened to learn of the recent death of a long time contributor, who went by the handle of oakhawk. Many of us here benefited from his vast knowledge of Iowa women's basketball and had been wondering about his absence over the last few weeks. He died in late January at the age of 67 at UIHC. His obituary doesn't tell us much more than that, but he will be greatly missed by many of us who support Lisa Bluder and her team. Interesting to note that he asked that any memorials in his honor be left to the Hawkeye women's basketball program. Bless his memory. Bless his soul. https://www.lensingfuneral.com/obituaries/David-Conrad-Pedersen?obId=4069385#/obituaryInfo

Very sad to hear. I always loved his insights on women’s basketball players and recruits. RIP fellow Hawkeye. In Heaven there is no beer...

He will greatly be missed here. I have always wondered who oakhawk was, and was hoping for a picture in his obituary. I'm sure I would have seen him over the years. Age 67, too young.

Threads like this put into perspective the fact that, hater or apologist, the posters here are all just passionate Iowa fans and most likely have just as much in common as differences.

RIP to oakhawk and Go Hawks!

Well said. That's why i apologized to @IowaHawkeyeFBnBB4Life this morning and I owe another apology to @Franisdaman and anyone else I’ve treated poorly. Life’s too short and fragile to mock, berate, and argue incessantly with good, passionate people.

I second all the sentiments here. Really need the group to step up and pick up the slack. The Iowa Women will one tomorrow and start us on a nice finish to the season - one that oakhawk would stand and applaud.

Rest in Peace, Oakhawk! He has passed the torch of Iowa WBB fandom to all of us. In his memory, we should try our best to keep the flame alive.

All who have posted here - if you can spare a few minutes, PLEASE click on the link posted by @redbirdhawk and post a note on the tribute wall for David. I just posted there, and I was probably about the 4th or 5th person. He was such a fan and so knowledgeable about the WBB team. It doesn’t appear that he was married or had any children. Survived by his mother and two sisters.

If anything, we could ALL depend on Oak to give us great info and knowledgeable opinions on the current team as well as recruiting. So IMO, we should all show up on the tribute page and let his family know how awesome he was. I am SO, SO sorry he won’t be able to be at the senior game against NW, but I know he will definitely be there in spirit. God bless and RIP, Oakhawk. You will be missed. ❤️

Waaayyyyy too young. Too close to my age. I am so sorry for his family, and I’m sorry for those of us here who appreciated his wisdom and whatever insider information he could provide to us.

I was afraid of this when he hadn't posted in quite some time. A great contributor to this site and a great Hawk. Rip, oakhawk.
