It seemed to me the first half running plays were mostly right up the middle & poor execution on the blocking with the ISU stacking the box. 2nd half seemed to run more to the edges & better zone blocking. IDK

Seeing Cade running when play breaks down was very encouraging. Petras & Hill could never escape a rush. Great to see new receivers making plays. Lachey caught a few, but our other TE's also caught some nice balls. Last year defenses would key on our TE's. Not so much this year.

Very balanced play calling, but I think he called it pretty vanilla. The second half he opened it up a little bit, but I think the fact Wetjen wasn't used on any kind of jet sweep or counter means he hasn't truly delved into his playbook yet. Next week will be a much better test.

I haven't re-watched the second half yet. That said, I feel like he handled Cade the way he needed to. Once Cade got into a rhythm, he needed to keep that going.

The other decisions that I questioned made more sense in retrospect. I was frustrated with the first half running game and wanted to see KJ. Turned out he was suspended.

The play calling was decent throughout. The underthrow to Lachey in the first quarter should have been a touchdown. It was a good call. The incompletion to Oertworth in the second quarter was a tough ball, but he had his hands on it. That would have been a touchdown too.
The stats in the first half were also affected by Gill's hold on Moulton's run and Lachey's motion penalty on the long scramble.

In the second half, everything looked more settled.

So far, so good. Second half surge has to say something about his coaching. I'm we'll see more motion this week. Gotta tell Cade to step into his throws. The back foot slingshots will catch up with you eventually...especially with tougher competitive.
