Unfortunately I think the odds are basically 0. With no B1G team in the playoff we would have to leapfrog UW, OSU, PSU, MSU and UM. Probably only 1 makes the NY6.
All 3 teams are currently ranked and PSU/NW have a good chance of winning out. MSU will probably still be ranked as long as they go 2-1.If, and everything is possible until it isn't, Iowa finishes 9-3 it would mean a four game winning streak with two against Top 10 opposition. The three loses were all within one score, two of which will probably be ranked opponents at the end of the season as well. Iowa would be no lower than 12 under that scenario.
The losses to northwestern and MSU ate looking bad..... not that they are bad, but they were very winnable.Unfortunately I think the odds are basically 0. With no B1G team in the playoff we would have to leapfrog UW, OSU, PSU, MSU and UM. Probably only 1 makes the NY6.
I just want to win this weekend first.
Agree, a bowl becomes winnable when the team shows up to play.Lets go to a winnable Bowl Game for once...
Ya, money kicks in. The teams from all those states have bigger fan bases due to demographics. More industrialized and more money in the states as well. 0% chance, a 1 loss Wisconsin Trumps is every time.Unfortunately I think the odds are basically 0. The league makes decisions about which bowls teams go to, so they will look to maximize total ratings and dollars for all B1G bowl games combined. You could just as easily see Northwestern jump us since they also could finish 9-3 with a head to head victory.Ya, money kicks in. I do not think Northwestern puts fans in front of the TV, or in the stands like Iowa does. The league makes decisions about which bowls teams go to, so they will look to maximize total ratings and dollars for all B1G bowl games combined. I’m not predicting they jump us, but the B1G could conceivably think “we are going to get ratings in the Cotton Bowl no matter what, let’s put jNW there and Iowa in Foster Farms to maximize our viewership.”I do not think Northwestern puts fans in front of the TV, or in the stands like Iowa does.
The most important game is our next game Our focus
must be on beating Wisconsin on the road. Right now
that is the only game that counts in determining our
Bowl destiny. May Nate "The Great" take us to the
promised land on New Year's Day.
Agree.Threads like this always bring out the “One game at a time “ and “Let’s focus on this weekend “ crowd, as if the entire fan base needs to be prepared for an upcoming game.
I’ve always found that to be rather funny. How dare us fans discuss possible scenarios for the season.
What IF Iowa wins out, Wisconsin loses out (Iowa, Michigan and Minnesota) andNW loses two (I can dream) IOWA goes to B1G championship game. Iowa can still play on NYD
Although there's only about a 1% chance ( of Wisc. losing out), I believe NW only needs to lose once. In a three way tie between IA, Wisc. and NW Iowa wins the 2nd or 3rd tie-breaker (division record). What IF Iowa wins out, Wisconsin loses out (Iowa, Michigan and Minnesota) andNW loses two (I can dream) IOWA goes to B1G championship game. Not in 2015! The people that were talking about 12-0 before the season kicked off had a boring fall waiting on the B1G title game. All I care about at this time.
For a fan, expectations are things that simply, inevitably, get crushed.
One game at a time...

The big thing they want to avoid is The same teams going to the same bowls year after year. The conference is involved making the matchups the best they can be for the entire conference. Since they all split revenue it makes sense.

It used to be the bowls made direct invitations to the teams and it doesn’t work like that any longer.
I have no interest in an argument with you. All I’m saying is that the B1G is involved with bowl assignments in a way that mitigates our advantage of a big loyal traveling fan base, compared to someone like Northwestern. As soon as you show me a link to where the B1G gets to choose which of their teams plays in the Cotton Bowl, or any NY6 bowl for that matter, I'll take you seriously.

Interesting point about the bowl assignments. Not sure that the "Iowa travels well" conventional wisdom necessarily holds up anymore. But, if it's still true does it mean anything? Does the cabal making the bowl determinations really care about that?
If We lose to Wisconsin, it's probably because the fans were looking ahead!Agree.
It's a message board. Full of speculation. About all sorts of things big, small, and some not really connected to the sport.
Fans, followers, anyone with a passing interest can speculate all they want about what if scenarios and I highly doubt it will have a significant impact on the outcome of this weekend's game.
