I'm going the game with some lifelong Hawkeye fans who did not attend the U. One is my dad and he's proud to have a son who's a Hawkeye. I would have preferred to skip walking at Carver, but I knew what it meant to my parents to have a son graduate from college. I'm glad I walked, looking back. The other two going with us are Hawkeye lifers who retired early to a sailboat in Fort Myers. They went to every FL bowl game to support the Hawks.
I have another uncle, close in age to my father, who graduated from Iowa in the early 80s. After college, he joined the Peace Corps and worked in El Salvador when shit was real. We're proud to know each other.
