Kirk's Legacy

Kirk is all that is still good about football. He is genuine, humble, and respected by almost all. Despite his few flaws, he has become one of the best coaches in the history of the big ten. I hope he coaches another 5 years, 1 so hopefully my young kid has some memory of watching Kirk era football w/her dad and 2 to piss off the majority of this stupid fan base 😝

Wait…. Brian Ferentz (throwing one of your supposed best friends under the bus to save your son), racial allegations leading to multimillion dollar settlements, rhabdo, those things never happened?!?
And Kirk cared about his players that were in the hospital with rhabdo so much....that he stayed out of town on his recruiting trip. What a guy!

I can't wait for the Ferentz defenders to claim "he had no choice" or some other excuse, when you know if it was your son playing for a coach who did that while claiming what a "family" the football team was, you'd be pissed.

Because I think he's an arrogant jerk who some fans put on a pedestal and worship. Tell me you wouldn't be pissed and think your boss is an arrogant jerk if your boss said, "If I had to depend on (your name) to get things done, I'd stay home!", which is exactly how he talked about Deuce Hogan:

A "nice guy" wouldn't have even considered saying something like that to the media about a player, whether he was transferring or not.

You luv him so much you can overlook abuse? Dantanonio for 50 please.

Or Baylor Christian Christian Ethics for 200.
I don't think he's an evil guy that purposely abused anyone. Well, maybe the fans the last several years with Brian's offense. Other than that, no.

He chose to look away. If you want to excuse that its your choice. I knew about rhabdo with out training experts and medical staff to advice me. Joe Pa for 200.

I don’t think so. Mary wouldn’t put up with that!

It wasnt a joke.

It wasnt a joke.
Of course not. What speaks even more to his arrogance, is that he pays a team of public relations professionals to avoid problems like this, yet he keeps stepping in it and then tries to walk it back by claiming he was "just kidding/joking".

Kirks best quality is the one thing that drives some fans up the wall. He's consistent and has built a program with an incredibly strong foundation to the point that it will never hit rock bottom. Problem is the ceiling on his teams are so low that games against top 10 teams in the country aren't even competitive anymore.
We don't dish out enough money to play with those teams, so I've lowered my expectations and support him no matter what. He's what was good about college football from the past and a warm shelter from the absurdity and grossness in today's college football landscape.
Kirk has figured out a strategy that allows UIowa to compete annually in football. That strategy dies nit feature explosive offensive football. It features solid fundamentals and solid defense and attention to field position. Not stuff that excites most butts in the stands but over time, this strategy dies win football games. Fans need to understand that coaches are hired and paid to WIN games. Kirk has been an unqualified success. Success is never been a guarantee any where, including UIowa.
Folks don’t appreciate the quality of Kirk’s work at UIowa. Detractors point to his Brian experiment and they have a legit point. But show me a coach or any person that does not have a flaw. To Kirk’s credit, he has seemingly “moved on” and now is addressing problems that face his teams today. True, he is getting older…. But to claim “ the game has passed him by” is a fool’s claim. Kirk’s game plan still wins football games.

It did in the Big Ten West. It sure didn’t work this year against a cupcake schedule.

And you know this how? Oh, and when people make blanket statements like "nobody donates" it makes it very difficult for anyone with even a modicum of intelligence to take what is said seriously. If nobody donated, there wouldn't be a swarm and there wouldn't be any NIL monies at Iowa. Since both of these do exist at Iowa, the statement is either a gross exaggeration, or a purposeful lie. I know some might let this type of language slide as a fan's over exuberance but when it has become a pattern of exaggeration it is to be taken literally.

I agree. He was untouchable before Brian. I still laugh and cringe imagining Kirk addressing the team and being like, “There is no one above the program or the team.” And then everyone on the team knowing Brian is.

Given the new environment in CFB, what is the stated goal of the IOWA program? Is it really a CFB championship, within the first year? Is it sincerely a CFP birth, within the first year?

What historical evidence would give any of us any deluded thinking that, in this new environment, a sound near-term goal may be anything other than a B1G CCG, or going a certain amount of wins, or a bowl game, etc.? IOWA has a good program, Kirk is and has been a good coach sending players to the NFL and occasionally having fantastical seasons, but we are no longer in the former B1G West structure, NIL and portal exist, and acquisition is different.

NIL donors are very nuanced. There is no one reason donors give or don’t, nor at what level. IMO, the Brian situation has done Kirk and the program no favors regarding NIL, talent acquisition, and possibly recruitment trail efforts, from donor nor athlete considerations.

However, a clearly stated, realistic goal is probably one answer to temper fan expectations, signal what resources the program needs, and where we are in the journey, in this new environment.

Absolutely the goal should have been a CFP birth this year. We played Ohio State and literally no one else. A realistic goal next year with the state of the team and the schedule should be getting to .500. Winning six games next year would be an enormous accomplishment for Iowa. We are getting destroyed in the NIL game.

" Kirk’s game plan still wins football games."

----------------Unless it's against a team with a pulse.

All of a sudden teams like Wisconsin, Washington, Minnesota etc are crap.

I didn't watch any games this year, and I'm done watching until Kirk is gone. I'm not the only one.
At least it frees up your Saturdays. You can meet the other 5 or 6 guys for coffee or a beer, or both. And plan for the day you won't watch until the next coach is gone.

If they get someone who knows how to run an Iowa team without any lawsuits (like Fran, Jan, etc.), then I'll watch again. Until then, I'm all about Iowa men's and women's basketball!

You're the one that brought it up. I figured you knew something nobody else was aware of.

Because we could be more than mediocre with a 21st Century Offense, which we won't get until the Fossil is gone.

TXC… how much more $$ are you donating ? Is it worth it to you to double up your gifts to UIowa?
This “portal” and paying players is not in the best interests of most P-5 for all teams. Honestly, it is not worth it to me. The “rules changed” in the procurement of players the last 3-4 years has dampened by interest in college football. It is now a game where the rich and wealthy will survive and those of ordinary means will struggle to be moderately successful.
