I know JU isn't the type of personality to be a vocal leader, But man he could sure use an influx of the intensity that Aaron White brought to the floor.

I can't stand to listen to Jess Settles. He's too much of a know it all. Many other color men have done what he did on the floor and a lot more and come across much better. I don't know who the play by play guy is and don't care. Probably a UI student.
Well hopefully Fran can use that loss for coaching. This team just doesn't have the talent to go through the motions and win. Got to bring effort for all 40 minutes in bball. Hopefully that's a reminder for every game. Only thing I'm disappointed in is you have 4 seniors and a junior starting. Not a lesson that they should have to figure out. And yes the effort out of the starters was horrible.
I don't know what the final shooting percentages will be, but they hit a hell of a lot more shots for the portions of the game I could stomach watching. I think at one time Iowa missed about 7 in a row, and then free-throw shooter supreme Jok clanged the front end of a one on one I believe (right after the announcer had the points already counted.......). They shot well it appeared, we didn't. Nothing to see here folks.
Well, the good news is Iowa is 0 - 0 right now.
Maybe they should have played Moss?
How Uthoff can't be dominating in a game like that is hard to believe. Clemmons was mediocre aside from the big 3. The behind the back pass at a crtical juncture was foolish.
Jok, Woody, Gesell did their part (even though the latter two really didn't have much going offensively).

Ellingson must be absolutely nailing it in practice or he wouldn't be getting the PT he's been getting. Uhl must not be bringing it in practice or pouting about not starting or something. Hopefully he pulls out of it.

You really have to hope a couple of the new guys can step up with some consistency, Right now it's hard to see any clear cut leaders for the 6th man, Let alone 7th or 8th. Will be interesting to see who emerges, Jones has the shot no doubt, It will be all about trusting his defense, Uhl looks like he has regressed from last year so far, Hope he can get his confidence back...soon.
Not kidding. Our big guys were faked and outplayed out of their shorts all night by a smaller bunch from Augustana who had a clearer idea of what they were doing than we did. We were unaggressive and often out of position. And, besides, they had the best player on the court.
Not sure what Uhl's deal was. Jones would be my vote for 6th man right now. Ellingson has a nice stroke and hit a few but his defense is pretty bad.

Can someone summarize the game. I know we lost, Not Good. It's sounds like a lack of hustle and energy plus poor shooting. That will get you a loss most nights with those two.
Work in progress, trying to find the right combination of second line players to fill the scoring and defensive gaps. I think the bottom line is that Uthoff cannot have a night off for IA to be competitive. Uthoff was like he's playing like a sophomore instead of a senior.
Aaron White was even more important than we thought.

I'll do a short summary and then sign off for the evening to avoid the meltdown.
Defense and rebounding were glaring issues. Aug had at least 12 three's and most were wide open. Woody got abused by their post man. Uthoff hit a few shots but never looked interested and was a huge disappointment. Mike has the ability to take over games, but sometimes waits too long to do it. Sapp was so-so. Shot well but his defense wasn't as intense as usual and had a horrible horrible turnover in crunch time. Jok was far and away the best player for the starting 5. Looks like he wants to be the man, which we need if Ju doesn't show up.
Bench in a word was awful. Uhl played like two minutes. You could tell from the minute he came on, he did not look ready. Jones Ellingson and Baer got the most minutes. Jones looked good shooting and rebounding and played ok defense. Ellingson had a few three's but he's pretty one dimensional. True freshmen were a non factor.
One thing that is definitely true is that without better inside presence, we absolutely have to make 3's. No way around it.
