You want to hire a first year coach from a mid major program who has zero ties to Big Ten recruiting? Really? What makes you think he could recruit any top level talent?
Drake is gonna beat the sh*t out of us in Des Moines next year. In 5-6 years DeVries will be running a Top-25 P-5 level program somewhere (maybe Iowa St).....and we'll still have Barta and Fran....

Who has Drake beat this year? The MVC is really down. Do they have any Top 100 wins?

In summary, he's been a head coach at a mid-major conference for < 1 year. Way, way, way too premature.

Been posting on here since before the season started to watch that staff. The way they built the roster was impressive. Would love their staff. We are going nowhere with Franball.

Decries has done a good job. I get it. Fran has been a head coach for as long as decries has been an assistant and has taken three programs to the dance,.,..4 times in last 6 years..and you actually want to fire him, pay him 8 million to hire Devries? No.

Yes, have to take a chance to be really good/great. Their staff is younger, hungrier, cheaper, and most importantly could be great. They would likely stay at Iowa if successful. Fran’s culture of bad defense and slow rosters is never going to have postseason success.
Why? Because they've had success in < 1 season in a very down MVC conference? Unreal.
That being said, don't misconstrue that to suggest I'm happy with Fran because I have serious doubts but he did bring IA out of the Lick cesspool and has had some success - but inexplicably with late season swoons, no BTT success, and limited success in the NCAA tourney.

You were ok with a low major coach coming in. What you posted supports what I said.
I really didn't say that, Fran had / has a history of resurrecting multiple programs, took 3 teams to the NCAA tourney prior to joining IA, and was an assistant at ND - a more established & impressive program than Creighton.
They did a good job of bringing in 2 grad transfers and 3 juco's with 1 freshman with their 3 returning players. They have another transfer sitting out this year. The leading scorer, rebounder and shot blocker is a senior who returned, the 2 grad transfers are they next leading scorers and the assist leader. Let's see how they do the next 2 years with the MVC rebuilding still after Creighton and WSU leaving.

I'll try once again: yes it does something for me, it's an impressive start, and somebody to keep an eye on. Still premature on taking a chance on him. Make no mistake, this is big time, major conference basketball.
Besides, Fran isn't going anywhere next year; don't get your hopes up if you're so inclined. IA will be dancing this year and Fran will be back next year.

Ellingson is one of their better players. The same Ellingson who was clearly out classed in the Big 10.
The MVC is much different than the Big 10. It takes different roster construction, different handling of egos, and different recruiting. Pretty much every coach in the Big 10 is good.
