Who off the twins, mariners or guardians
I think the most likely to go would Woods Richardson or Paddach from the Twins. They really like Festa and Matthews, and I doubt they would deal Woods Richardson, but Paddach could be had.

I believe the Mariners would like to deal Castillo for a hitter, but his numbers are heading the wrong way.

I can’t see the Guardians moving anyone, they just need to bide time until Bieber and Means get healthy enough to contribute

Yeah, I don't know what the health status is of some of our pitchers. If Assad is going to be shut down for a while longer and starts on the 60-day IL, but the club doesn't feel the need to add another pitcher to the 40-man (Like Birdsell, who's also hurt), then maybe the Cubs can hold on to two of those guys. The Cubs currently have 24 pitchers on the 40-man, which is more than any other team I saw after glancing at a half-dozen other rosters. I'd like to see both AC and GW stick, so I hope they can figure it out...
I think there will be some pitchers get cut, so like you, I’m hoping that’s where this space comes from.

I am not an apologist, but I am getting tired of Olney and the rest out generating clicks, and of all the whining on the Score about Bregman going to the Red Sox. The Cubs offered him $90 million. They didn't go cheap. He would have been a luxury. The team is a lot better going into this season versus last season. I am irritated a starter wasn't added, but there is room via trades to add payroll, still.
Cubs offered him 4/$115M. That was definitely an aggressive offer. Maybe there’s a quibble if Boras or Bregman say he’d have gone Cubs if the offer got to 4/$120M or even 4/$125M because the Cubs had that to play with, but pumping it to $40M AAV with deferred money is just them significantly out-shooting the market. I’m ok with it.

But Tom also keeps opening his mouth and leaving himself wide open to all the criticism.

Keegan should be on an ultra-short leash. He had a good bounce-back season last year, but I've got to think that with no minor league options remaining, no longer being a candidate for a spot-start and not really being a late-inning guy, he will have a hard time proving his worth. He may not even make it through spring training, especially if Assad (or another pitcher) doesn't end up on the 60-day IL. He might actually have some trade value, though, so he might not be yet another one of our guys claimed off waivers or traded for the infamous "cash considerations."

This scenario isn't discussed much here, but although we're all expecting Matt Shaw to be on the ODR, that isn't official yet, and although this injury of his doesn't seem to be serious, it sure isn't helping his cause. It would be a borderline disaster for Shaw to be given a roster spot to start the season to please the fans and tag him as a PPI player, only to have him on the IL in April after a hard swing.... The club obviously has thought of that, so that's another potential ODR spot for AC, VB, GW.

True on all of that. When I look at the roster, I obviously see VB as a big at-risk guy, I just think he’s pretty redundant with Berti, Workman and even Triantos and Cowles likely in AAA. You’re right about Keegan, though with a decent spring I could see him getting an ODR spot and then just stay as long as he’s effective. I see Hollowell as being at risk along with Roberts and Merryweather (if he’s not right).

Well, it sounds like Canario is the cut. They will get next to nothing for him.
Sadly, I think he was slated to get traded for actual value after the 2022 season until he had that horrific winter ball injury. I really wish the Cubs would have given him more runway last year.

Can hawkifann or someone else explain to me the difference between a NRI and a guy like this Zac Leigh, who is not listed as a NRI, but is playing in an MLB ST game after transaction wire shows him as "assigned to Chicago Cubs"?

The thing that irritates me about Canario is they pushed Suzuki to DH because he turns fly balls into adventures. Now they are in a position where they really might need him to play some LF and RF if this roster holds. I have little belief Brujan can play the OF

I’m hosting the live Bleacher Bunch show tonight at 8 Central if anyone wants to tune in. You can find it under Bleacher Bunch on Yahoo, Twitter or Facebook.

It sucks losing Canario, but no way will Suzuki be a regular outfielder. again. If one of our outfielders gets hurt, Alcantara and Caissie will get shots before Suzuki.
