*****Official IOWA at Rutgers Game Thread*****

basically, Fran has a lineup that got him to 19 pt lead and then he swapped int the guys that were not playing defense or taking care of ball or making baskets.

Nothing to be adhamed of. Very hard to maintain top intensity game after game especially how wrll the hawks have done. A letdown not a big deal in that they will still won.

A double digit win, but hardly super satisfying, considering how bad Rutgers is. (Iowa really gave up 76 to them??)

Even though the Hawks won "easily", here's to hoping this serves as another wakeup call before PU Sunday and @MD next Thursday - the same way the loss @ ISU turned into better/stronger/sustained play and effort.

Worst D effort and too many mental lapses. Gessell has played great this year but he was an absolute liability on both ends tonight. Should have played Clemmoms most of the second half at point with Williams some. It happens. Hopefully Mike can bounce back.

Nice games by Jok, Clemmons, Woody, Utoff.

Every team has a game or two like this during the season. The trick is to withstand it and move on. 6-0 sounds pretty good! On to the Purdue game.

Yeah, there is no reason we couldn't have opened that game up. The press to end the first half would have whopped them in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half. No need to beat our guys up when we know we had this in the bag. Not exactly a fun game to watch, Gessel didn't play well, but had some assists. Wish we could have gotten the other guys in more, but there wasn't a ton of effort put forth by many with 10 min left to play. Eh, good W, shoulda blown them out but Rutgers did shoot well, and we got whistled a lot in the first half with them driving. Such is life in the B10, take the W, get some rest, and come back ready to take down Purdue for the 2nd time.

As another poster said, sometimes you play down to your opponent - especially when your favored so heavily.

At the end of the day, got out with a win w/ no injuries. Should be a good motivator to get focused for Purdue and Maryland

The whole team played terrible D.

Suggesting to bench your best pg who is a proven senior ? Good lord.

That's the kind of willy nilly overactive nonsense that most coaches would find laughable.

If Jok keeps playing like this, he'll overtake Uthoff as B1G leading scorer. Pretty sure he's in top 5 in conference for steals.

We got very little from the bench with the ecception of Wagner. He brought energy. He had some defensive lapses, but overall did a nice job. We were so wide open on several shots early we started to pass up looks that we would normally take and make. A lack of any kind of a crowd gave neither team any energy.

Overall just a lack of effort by the Hawkeyes, we got a W and came out healthy. Not a disaster but we have a lot to learn from.

Laugh all you want but something was off with Mike tonight. He's played very, very well this year. With the luxury of having Clemmons who had a hot hand and Williams who is looking ready for some minutes it would have been nice to give Mike a bit of a breather tonight since he was not playing well. It's not like I am suggesting he not play the rest of the year.

Stop trying to leverage my thoughts to make some kind of huge declaration.

from what Fran told Dolph in post game...Gesell has a hammy issue...we all better hope its not serious...when Gesell passed up a pretty open drive...it has to tell you something isn't right

That probably explains it... And more the reason to ease off on his minutes tonight especially in the second half.

I overreacted with my response.

My feeling is you don't bench guys with that much proven experience for more than a couple minutes no matter what.

Bad stretches happen and the odds are hell snap out of it sooner than latter.

He had 9 assists.

I over-reacted also so my apologies. I have been very pro-Mike this past year, year and a half as his play has impressed me. I just noticed something was off tonight. Sounds like an injury so that explains it.
