I don't disagree with him at all, granted I am biased. The problems are the early season losses to teams like Wichita State, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, and playing terrible teams in the mid week games. Those games are what killed Iowa's RPI. Iowa has played more games against Q1 & 2 opponents than Rutgers.

there are no right or wrong answers but what does your gut tell you about Iowa's NCAA Tournament chances if:

(a) Michigan beats Rutgers (I think we are toast because 3 B1G teams would be in: Michigan, RU, and Maryland)

(b) Rutgers beats Michigan (I am not holding my breath & will hope for a surprise tomorrow)

People have asked me why Iowa doesnt have better non conference opponents for mid week games. The issue is there is hardly any one to play nearby.

Maybe we should just get rid of some of these midweek games and have intrasquad scrimmages instead. That way you give the younger pitchers a chance for some game action and you don't kill your RPI.

I would be interested in hearing how Heller plans to schedule moving forward, since RPI seems to mean everything to the Selection Committee. You tweeted about how teams like Dallas Baptist scheduled in order to manipulate their RPI. Does Iowa need to play more games in the preseason against tougher opponents? Should Iowa have fewer midweek games (especially against the RPI killer teams) once the B1G schedule starts?

I know people have a hard time with this, but just fix the system. There are some glaring and obvious fixes. Of course, the solution, if one is given, will be terrible, because people continue to be people.

Missouri not coming to Iowa should have an * next to it. Naturally they did one year on a whim when it benefitted them RPI wise. Neither made the tournament.
