***** Official Iowa - Tenn Tech Thread *****

they found their groove. Hope they can find some love for Fleming and Williams in the second half. The conference games start after this and they may never see the court again. MAY never see the court again. I didn;t say they wouldn't.

I was actually looking for an "official game thread" before the game started. I'm not watching the game either. I'm guessing those who are watching are using their computers for that purpose and can't be on this site at that same time. I don't know how it works.

I see Iowa is up 22 points at half with Jok being the leading scorer at 13. Looks like fairly balanced scoring with Uthoff and Clemmons contributing 9 and Baer chipping in with 6.

It was brick city for the first few minutes with hawks down by 4. They pulled Jok and talked to him, he was forcing it. Put him back in and he started hitting some 3's.

I hope we see Wagner and Uhl play big minutes in the 2nd half. Need to get those guys ready for B1G play. Would also like to see Fleming get some good playing time, too.

I'm probably being a homer...but when this team gets going they are easily one of the best teams in the Big and Top 20

Fleming has seen some minutes but I haven't seen Williams. It would be a good game to get him in there to run the offense.

This makes too much sense...

-- Jok is a machine when he gets in a rhythm... would like to see him drive to the hoop more often.

-- Clemmons is a spurt on/off player; better off the bench IMO

-- Baer has now firmly established himself in the top 7 this year. Not sure where Dale Jones fits in next year.

-- the team chemistry not there yet.

Baer on the floor just changes the dynamic of the game. He has to start eating into Clemmons & Gessel's minutes.

Jok has a great stroke and I rarely mind any open on balance look he gets. Not a huge fan of him driving the ball a ton. He has few effective moves once he gets in close. If he could learn to jump stop and get someone off their feet and draw fouls that would be a plus. Love his stroke from the line. In any case he has to limit his game IMO and then that opens up his real game which is knocking down jumpers.

Jones and Baer will both have plenty of minutes next year. I think Wagner will fight Jones for playing time, but Jones has such good range it will be tough. I see Cook and Kriener at the 5. Uhl will play both but probably more at the 5 due to need rather than skill set. We will really need to see some growth at the wings and the point. Jok will need someone to break him (probably Ellingson) and Williams and Jason getting some minutes at the point. I'd hoped Fleming would be able to play some point, but I just don't see that happening.

If you told me after non conference I'd be feeling good about next years inside game and questioning where we might be at guard I'd have said no way.

There's talent on this team and watching it develop over the next 4 years will be fun.

Well, there have been other games that have been shown on this ESPN3 crap and the "Official Game Thread" was full of conversation during the game. And yes, my competency with most things computers leaves a lot to be desired. I had to have someone show me how to put pictures in my signature and am still learning how to use Facebook. Lol.

I don't think you are a homer. Maybe both of us are but I agree with you. When this team gets in a groove they look damn good. Now it is consistency. The capability is there to be a sweet 16 team without a doubt.

They're very close. They just have to find a way to win the close one's against higher level competition.

This team is really missing that go to guy. The guy who wants the ball because he KNOWS he is going to score and win the game. Currently Uthoff is too passive, he has the skill but is afraid to use it when the game is on the line. Jok is better if he can spot up for a shot, but I just never trust him when the game is on the line. Gessel wants to be that guy but he just doesn't knock it down enough. This leaves us with a lot of # 2 options but no #1 options when the game is on the line.

I hope one of the guys can really step it up as a leader on the court and then attack the end of games as a team rather than having 1 go to guy. I think the only way we get over the hump to win the close games is to take the team approach and play hard nosed D and go with the hot hand for the night

I like this post! In bold is why.

If you'd have told me Baer was going to be the star of the newcomers this summer, I'd have thought you were a relation. With Cook, Uhl, Baer, Jones, Wagner getting significant minutes at 4-5, and Kriener/Pemsl filling in, the front court is likely a strength. I see Jok playing 3/2 next year with Ellingson unless Moss/Fleming break out. Williams looked better this game but will probably see few minutes the rest of the season.
