***Official Iowa vs. Creighton Thread***

Credit to Creighton for constantly taking advantage of Iowa not recognizing that they wanted to get Czinano and our other bigs switched on a smaller guard, such as Jensen so that it'd be easier to knock down jump shots or beat her off the dribble because of how slow they are.

That was the biggest difference at the end, defensively.

I hope CC works on her mental toughness a bit in the off-season. She is terrific but Creighton got inside her head today and it showed. They fought back after Creighton shot lights out from 3 but a ton of missed bunnies by the Hawks and CC did not have it. Creighton had a pretty good game plan and it did require Iowa to miss enough shots and we did.

Why the hell was Monica guarding Jensen on that three?

i meant shooting wise. how many did she miss?
She missed shots yes, But so did a lot of other players. Clark can't be expected to shoot on every possession. At some point other players need to be more aggressive. I expect a big difference next year. Marin, Warnock and Marshall are too tentative and need to hunt shots. Taylor McCabe will look for shoot as will Stuelke and Gyamfi. Hopefully the current players will look to be more aggressive or see playing time diminish.

Wouldn’t hurt to work on her physical toughness either

They all stunk it up shooting except Czinano. She went 12-20. Gabby didn't even score until she hit the 3 in the middle of the 4th qtr. wtf?

She also does a fairly poor job on her own, at changing up how to get and create open shots when teams are guarding her like they've been doing the last several games. And that's not even mentioning what the coaches aren't doing to scheme her open.

If this keeps up, and this becomes the blue print to shut down Clark, then Iowa is in trouble (at least until some of the other players decide to step up).

Apologies in advance for not looking this up myself, but why did Jensen transfer? Just one game but she had 19. Just wondering.

Martin gives effort on defense but on offense she gets out of control.

Warnock has lost her game since being out.

O'Grady has terrible footwork.

Taiwo, well ... Just bad.

Did the bench contribute anything?

Need more than two players to show up.

I understand this POV but I absolutely hate this mentality.
.
If you give up 12-15 or more ORBs per game, you can't afford to have an off night against decent teams. Creighton out hustled Iowa all day on the boards. Cut the Bluejay 2nd chance points in half and Iowa wins by 10 even with a bad shooting performance.

Other players need to step up is the point. We needed one of the other three to rise to the challenge and Martin/Warnock/Marshall did not.

Creighton was very familiar with us and exploited the weaknesses that have been there all year. Probably should choose a different team to scrimmage with each year as it was clearly a disadvantage today.

The refs make sure we don’t. This game especially…every point counts. Every three they drilled after the no call counts. It ruins the game.
Meh. It must've been worse when I wasn't watching. There were missed calls, sure, but not as many shooting fouls as people are trying to make it out to be and we did a poor job forcing shots up trying to draw/sell fouls.

Czinano let the defense bother her on her last several shots, instead of using her post fundamentals to make sure she had the best angle/position to finish.

I do hope we play them in the regular season next year though.

Game plan from Creighton was to bully and frustrate Iowa. It worked and Iowa beat themselves. No D, no rebounding, complained about officiating on every shot. Iowa men and women's teams when it mattered......SOFT!

Basketball is now all about fouling on every possession, daring the refs to call a foul on every possession.

I guess that's how we need to play now, too.

Yes we absolutely need to rebound better. I'm not trying to disparage the other players. But I believe they need to be more aggressive on offense and not pass up shots.

I think there are confidence issues and the coaching staff needs to work on their confidence and instilling a mentality to shoot when you're open and to work on driving and kicking. The ball ends up on the perimeter too often.

Also need to work on motion without the ball in the offseason so Clark is not getting hung up on the perimeter and Monika is freed up/isolated for better shots.

With more balanced scoring we can be a dangerous team. I like what we have coming in, especially Taylor McCabe. Hopefully the coaches can figure out how to distribute minutes in a way where everyone is making an impact.

Sorry guys but every loss isn’t on the officials. We got our ass kicked on the glass, missed a ton of layups, and didn’t make 3’s. We spend way too much time bitching and moaning to the refs and flopping and flailing than we do playing ball. If you have watched much Iowa women’s basketball this year, this is a reoccurring theme.

Indiana did the same thing as CU. Grab, hold and bump her, knowing that the refs are not going to call a foul every time. And Caitlin then gets upset, which affects her game.

Expect more of this moving forward.

Remember when refs were supposed to emphasize freedom of movement? So much for that.

Gabby Marshal has been a liability all year. She cannot get a shot off on her own. All she can do is stand out there and take a wide open 3 shot. Her defense is terrible. If you watch the last 3 minutes they went right by her on 3 occasions. Her quickness is lacking and she can't rebound. She is not good enough to be a starter on a Big10 team. Martin and Warnock are just not quick enough either. Bluder needs to get a better supporting cast. If Clark did not attract so much attention they would never get a shot off on their own.

They should probably run an OOC game next year where they sit Clark for the whole 2nd Qtr and have them fend for themselves.

I know, but CU got a lot of fast points right after the no calls.
