****Official Meltdown Thread****

Iowa needs to adjust to B1G refs. Needs more Perkins, JT, Ulis, and PMac.

Oof. Say words here.

Isn’t this a redundant post? The official melt down always happens first in the official game thread, or the refs cost us the game thread, or the Fran doesn’t know how to coach thread, or the official Fran doesn’t use his bench enough (or too much) thread.

Just trying to consolidate. Dont be that guy.

As mentioned. I chickened out and was tired of getting to wrapped up in the game and yelling at the tv in front of my kids so I took a break today.

I am still mad we lost and physically feel it but nowhere to the level of what I would have done if I watched it. I was hoping for some Celtic Pride stuff. I'm tired of this stuff. It's seriously like the universe is saying "come on man, stop getting your hopes up. Iowa will never make a run." Yet here we are, year after year. At least we are Chiefs fans.

Despite the whining I do on this board after every loss, in actuality I am apathetic about Iowa’s basketball team. I never once bought in to the pre- and early season hype. I knew a collapse would happen and it would be same sh*t - different year.

And it is going to continue to happen as long as Fran is the coach. Once his team faces even a LITTLE adversity, they fall apart.

I have no problem with guys getting more minutes, but are they going to shoot the ball? Perkins and JoeT will drive but I have yet to see them shoot outside of 10 feet for the most part, except JoeT and PMac. Iowa has to have 2 shooters on the floor at all times to be effective on the offensive end.

Dribble drives and layups are points too. Even more so if they get to the line.

If they are not a threat to shoot, teams will just pack the lane and there will be no where to drive to get to the rim.

As well as more of a challenge to get ball to Garza, and no need to leave double or triple team down low to challenge 3 point shooters

They do but I’m not sure that’s a strength for those players mentioned

JT is pretty decent at them. He has shown that when he gets the court. JBo has done some nice drives when JT is out there too.

Like I said, they have to be willing to shoot. If their defender is sagging off and daring them to shoot, they have to prove they can make the shot, no matter what type of shot. If they are not willing to shoot, then I don't want them on the floor. I want guys on the floor I know will take great shots.

It is quite a conundrum for Fran. Our shooters are not good at getting to the rim and finishing, our athletes are not good shooters. Getting CJ back will help a great deal.

I appreciated CJF before. The guy is a catalyst though. I hope he comes back but I'm not too sure.

This could just be a CJF appreciation thread. 9ppg in the quietest of ways.
CJ is critical to the team's success. He competes on both ends of the floor and adds a third shooter to help space the floor around Garza. I still believe if he is able to play in the tournament, the team can still go a long way. Their man defense was better today in the first half and they built a nice lead. When they play that hard, Fran has to be willing to sub guys in, because they are not athletic enough to play that hard and still be effective on the other end. He has to use the TV timeouts better. I thought a Fran had the perfect time to take Garza out and get him rest right before he picked up his 2nd foul. It was a dead ball and there was about 40 seconds or so before the TV timeout.

Which team will be seeded higher in the tournament...Indiana or Iowa?

You mean in the NIT, right? Indiana isn't going to make the tourney because the only team they can beat is Iowa (by the end of the season their home win over Iowa may be a quad 2 win) and Iowa can't beat anyone with a guard who can run under a 5.0 40.

What a joke....relying on 1 player to pull Iowa through. Iowa was suppose to be a deep team and losing C.J. to another injury shouldn't have caused this melt down. But here we are, lost 3 of 4 and no one from our bench is coming through for us, not in a consistent way at least.
Joe Toussaint should not see the floor at all, he is a blazing pile of crap. Much rather see Ulis or Perkins.
Connor should start practicing for baseball and forget about putting his sneakers on. Waste of time and energy.
Nunge is just not strong enough for whatever reason, and Patrick shouldn't take a shot unless it's a dunk, but at least he has a better chance of being much better at this game then his older brother.
Keagan Murray is a keeper and as a freshmen may be the best defensive player we have besides Perkins and Ulis, he plays the most of the 3 but he can't make up the deficiencies' of the senior players around him.
Love to see Iowa turn this season around and finish strong but it appears that now may not happen....getting Luka the school scoring title is about all we can look forward the rest of the season. He's a pleasure to watch and just wished the other players came to each game with the fire that Luka does. He evidently can't do it alone....

Remember when the multitudes were bitchin’ about signing the Murray twins? Guess some of the fans aren’t really all that knowledgeable about the game.

I want Iowa basketball to win, but as another poster stated earlier, I don't know if it is due to Covid- but I just can't get too emotionally invested in a game played by 18 year old kids anymore; that when they aren't playing ball they are probably playing Call of Duty. I'm not saying sports are bad or anything, but this last year has made me realize that sports is just not that important to ME.

I love watching sports, college football, basketball, wrestling, pro football and the Yankees. But I don’t get how people get so invested that they are screaming at the TV and it ruins their day/week if their favorite team loses.

I can’t believe that we can’t all agree that JBo is single-handedly costing us games. I’ve never seen a more pathetic defender. Really watch sometime. His free throws and 3-point shooting prowess (when he isn’t getting completely shut down because he can’t create his own offense) just ain’t worth what he costs us on D.

I wouldn't be spending time watching, or on forums like this, if it didn't have some meaning for me. But the amount of my time and emotional energy I have invested in Iowa sports is far less than it used to be and way down the list of importance.
I thought this team, if all 20 league games were played, had a ceiling of 14 wins and a floor of 9. Too many deficits across the board with athleticism and unlikely they'd correct enough of the defensive problems to do better.
They might break tendency and catch fire in the NCAA tournament. But I'm not counting on it.
To paraphrase KF, " That's basketball "

And then the backups just kill us today.. it’s maddening

Nunge 0-5 and PMAC 0-5.

Perkins 3-4 from FT line, no shots.

Ulis 0-1, might have been fouled.

JoeT 0-1 4 minutes PT.

I see two backups with poor games and then 3 backup guys that didn't get much PT. Keegan has been
a backup at times and he played well but got hosed by the refs. Nunge got big minutes because Fran ended
up with poor decision resting Garza big minutes in 1st half with Nunge playing poorly.

We can’t all agree because it’s not true. He has his faults but he is not the lone factor in our losses.

Could it be Fran’s fault for playing him? Other players who can defend but can’t score who are playing? Other players who can score but can’t defend efficiently?

Any loss is attributable to many factors. Thinking it’s all on one player is ludicrous and very short sighted

I would take Alford over Fran.
Are you crazy? Fran definitely has his faults ,but at least he is a good human being. I live in North Liberty and anyone I know that has met Fran says he is a great guy and will stop and talk with you. Alfraud was just that. He was a jerk and expected free hand outs where ever he went. Besides that he was a worse coach than Fran. His teams underperformed and then there was the Piere Pierce fiasco.

Alford is a tool. Even without the Pierre Pierce debacle he didn't win nearly enough to warrant any slack. I regret that he was ever brought in.
Fran's teams haven't done anything of note in the NCAA tournament. Alford's did nothing AND he is a complete a**hole. Fran wins the comparison, by a lot.
