****Official Meltdown Thread****

Iowa was also up 17 to 4 for a bit. Then sports happened..
That’s when I started watching. Quit watching 4 minutes into the second half and went outside and cleaned some ice off the driveway. It was -5 out and I was happy to be out there instead of watching the game. My wife yelled out when it was over and let me back in.

I don’t see many agreeing with your premise @WatWest00
And not many agreeing with your reply either 🤷🏼‍♂️ If people can’t objectively look at what JBo costs us every game on defense, then they’re either not being honest with themselves or aren’t watching closely.

Actually many are agreeing with what I said in different threads. Fran can’t coach, Nunge was terrible, Wheezy was invisible in the second half, we had terrible rotations in at times. Garza sat too long. Toussaint sucked due to no confidence, officiating sucked. Just read some threads from today and you will see plenty of people making excuses on why we lost.

I agree that 100% JBo is not good on defense. In fact he’s pretty bad but he most certainly is not the sole reason we lose games. He contributes no doubt, but a lot of things factor into any win, or loss.

Never seen a team lose a 10+ point lead as quickly as Iowa can. It's frankly astounding.

Also, can we stop the walk the ball up the court to set up our crappy half court offense? It doesn't work out well for us.
I've heard posters say repeatedly, repeatedly that our offense is really, really great but that the defense is the problem. Myself, I'm not sure that they are independent, the offense and defense. Also, I really, really liked the ball movement in much of the first half.

Of course a lot of factors go into losing a game. That’s the safest comment anyone can make. My point is that I firmly believe we’ve lost games we should have won due to JBo’s play — or lack thereof — on D alone. And it’s not all his fault. Fran is definitely to blame for continuing to play him as much as he has. And this is the “Meltdown” thread after all, so I felt like this was a safe place to air my grievances, lol.

I try not to get too upset over losses like these anymore. Honestly the loss at home vs IU was more frustrating than this one, as I felt the team at least competed today.

At least this was a close, nail biter game. It took my mind off real life problems for a couple hours which I’m thankful for.

It’s definitely a frustrating loss, and what has happened to this team down the stretch is incredibly disappointing. I still think/hope that this team can turn it around and find a way to win 13 or so B1G games and make a sweet 16 run. That will be a successful season in my eyes, even though just a few weeks ago my expectations were much higher.

At the end of the day these are 18-22 year olds playing for our entertainment. Let’s all try to remember that they want to win just as much, and most likely way more, than us fans want them to win. If you want to blame or badmouth anyone, please let it be towards the guy making 2+ million a year to win games and not towards the players.

More like Fran's 2 foul rule kicked in. We had them buried and Fran sits Garza the entire rest of the half.

Gave them life, Iowa went stale even though Garza wasn't doing much at the time, and next thing ya know we're down and they have momentum when there should have been none.

People foul out Fran. JFC he's really pissing me off lately.

At this point I don't care if he left or was fired. Take a swing at something and see if it sticks. Are we really going to fuss that much over being a bubble or getting in easier at 8/9?

Lickliter happening again has like a 5% chance.
True, I'm indifferent about if he stays or goes but I definitely don't want the guy who hired lick then hired a guy who thinks defense is optional making that choice. Nobody is going anywhere anytime soon other than maybe some guys who aren't getting minutes now

Agreed it is not the young men on the teams fault unless they are not giving effort. FM is totally at a loss because he is so sure his way is the only way.

#FranFade is in Full Effect. Just like clockwork. And unfortunately our university will NEVER make a change. Just glad there aren't fans in the stands watching this dumpster fire.
Is anyone still believing? What will it take for you to change your mind?

Just another typical year under Fran
Still a hawk fan. Not a Fran supporter anymore.
There should be no meltdown. Everybody had to know this was coming. If you didn’t you weren’t paying attention.
Which team will be seeded higher in the tournament...Indiana or Iowa?
Still a fan, but wonder if we make the tournament. Without CJ we lose just like last year.
Because we insist on sticking with coaches who are just good enough, but will never have what it takes to push their best teams to the next level.
This year IS Alford
I would take Alford over Fran.

35 days, this crap was being typed up.

These comments are from page 1 of this thread.

There are still 3 pages to go.

We ended up a #2 seed for the first time in 34 years, but so many of you were jumping ship in the first week of February.

Great fans we have, must say.

Folks like to go overboard in both directions. Now many are expecting at least a trip to the elite 8.

There's a reason I just avoid this place after a tough loss. But enjoy it after a W.... Like last Friday night 😎. Suck it Badgers
I would agree with that statement 100%. I know it fits me to a T. Though usually I’m either realistic or way overly pessimistic (sky is falling).

I only save the sunshine and rainbows stuff for Iowa football.

Right now, it’s looking like Iowa won’t even MAKE the tournament. How many more wins do they need? Two? ‘Cause unless this team stops feeling sorry for themselves and put a chip on their shoulder, they are finished.

Their confidence is shot. Choking another one away like this has destroyed what little they had left.
The way 2021 is starting out Iowa will be 8 or 9 seed out west with Gonzaga.
You mean in the NIT, right? Indiana isn't going to make the tourney because the only team they can beat is Iowa (by the end of the season their home win over Iowa may be a quad 2 win) and Iowa can't beat anyone with a guard who can run under a 5.0 40.
getting Luka the school scoring title is about all we can look forward the rest of the season.

Joe Toussaint should not see the floor at all, he is a blazing pile of crap.

What a joke....relying on 1 player to pull Iowa through.

Connor should start practicing for baseball
Im 40 years hard from Iowa basketball. But I actually believed this year. Shame on me.

As you can see above, this thread really delivered.

35 days ago, so many had given up.

I think we have gone so long with any real, nationally recognized success that the cumulative frustration surfaces. But I dont think folks truly stopped to comprehend how tough the B1G was this year. We were losing some really tight games to good teams, even Indiana, I would argue, would have fared well in any other league.

IA, OSU and IL had something like 22 losses combined this year!

No, its just showing that people COMPLETELY overreacted when there was still a lot of season left

Hindsight is not needed
21-8, 3rd in Big Ten, Big Ten Semis. This isn't over. If he doesn't win in the dance, it will be right back to where they started.

I hope they win.

It’s almost more upsetting how I’m really not affected by this game. Am I a diehard iowa fan through and through, of course! Did I think that iowa would win this game, YES. But I’m not surprised one bit. I feel this year round as a Hawkeyes fan in football and basketball where it feels like we have a cap on how good we can be because of coaching (with football being a bit higher of a ceiling because Fran is just a god awful coach sometimes). Why we wanted to play the same zones that were leaving wide open threes and wide open dunks idk or why he insisted that Bohannan or Connor played more than joe t or Perkins when they were playing much better idk. I’m only 21 so a lot of the good hawks years that a lot of people here talk about, I wasnt even alive and last time the hawks made the sweet 16 I was months old. It just feels like a lot of the same for the Hawkeyes.
