******Official OSU v ND National Championship game thread******

No one touching OSU in terms of talent. There are maybe, what, 4-5 teams that could hang with them? The rest of us just fight for table scraps.
There ain’t 4-5 that can compete with them talent wise.

Unless if you’re counting like the Chiefs, Bills, etc.

They would (and did) bitch slap the whole SEC up and down.

Same goes for Oregon, Penn State, & Indiana though.

Chances for a bit of a baby boom in Columbus and across Ohio mid-to-late October, later this Fall??

Not sure I’ll see a team win a natty from a conference other than the B1G for the rest of my lifetime.

B1G has too much $$$$ & now we’re playing, legally, by the rules that the SEC has been playing with, illegally (Saban), for the last 20 years.

And to be clear, I may only see the next 20-40 national championship games.

Wtf is Freeman doing?!?!

They currently need 2 td’s.

If he makes that fg they still need 2 TD’s but now with only 9 minutes left.

He’s going to get blasted for that decision. He would’ve even if that kid made it.
Premise was they needed 2 tds and 2 2pt conversions just to tie with just under 10 minutes left. They had three timeouts and the two minute warning. Kicking the FG means they still need 2 tds, but they don’t need 2pt conversions. Miss one of those conversions and you’re in big trouble. With the ball where it was I liked kicking the FG there and if they made it, OSU would have been crapping themselves after that next touchdown only leading by 6.

They were one big 3rd down stop away from having a chance, but OSU iced it by pulling their heads out of their rears for the first time in several drives.

OSU won the first college playoff and the first extended playoff.

If this had been a 4 team CFP, Oregon, Georgia, Texas and Penn State would have been the teams and tonight's match up would have never happened.

It’s really impossible to say that. Too many things played out the way they did leading up to precisely because it was a 12-team and not a 4-team playoff.

For example, one could make the argument that OSU would have approached the Michigan game with an entirely different game plan had they known that a loss leaves them at home. I’m quite certain they would have played with a much greater sense of urgency. Would it have flipped the outcome? Who knows? We can’t know. But when OSU played to their potential this year they were pretty much unstoppable.

Point is that you can’t say “if this had been a 4-team playoff instead then such and such would have happened.” You just can’t.

And the lower seed won all but 1 game (ND vs IU). All top 4 seeds were knocked out in their first game, wonder if the week off is what hurt them. Still believe it should be higher seed gets home field until the championship game, then that game is played in a central location.

FCS has done this for some time and it works well.

OSU scored 145 points collectively against the 2nd, 4th, 7th, and 16th rated scoring defenses.
Punting is not winning.
That's just mind boggling. OSU was an up and down team, but boy, did they pick the right time to put it all together. That was just a very scary team in the Playoffs

I can't think of a college team ever that had to run a gauntlet like that to earn a championship. Very impressive and they are fun to watch.

Crazy to think that OSU spent/blew $20M on that roster, lost to Michigan, finished 4th in the B1G standings and then went on to win the National Championship.

Congrats to them.
