***Official poll release thread***

3 teams ahead of us will have guaranteed losses. Now what would really be nice is one or two more get upset along the way.

Pretty sure college football is now run and controlled by the Russian mafia. Each year ways change to inflate the same teams.

I think this is good for our guys. Recognition for what they have done but much work ahead of them. Coming out at a 5 may have put too much on them right now. They may feel they have something to prove.

Notre dame what a joke. Only win vs a team in top 25 released #22 temple one spot below nwestern. Get credit for beating name teams like Texas, USC and ga tech who are having down years. No way they should be 5, let alone top 8.

Also someone tell pollack ole miss is only 3 spots higher than nwestern and his beloved Memphis who beat cincy and USF by only 7.

This whole thing is meaningless until their final poll. Unlike the old system, where if you kept winning, nothing changed. Iowa at 9 might even be higher than deserved. But it will not matter. If we win out, as a 13-0 Big Ten champion, we will be in the National Playoff.

2 SEC teams in the top 4 is a joke. No conference should have more than 1 team in the playoffs. If you can't win your conference you shouldn't be in the playoffs. By putting those two teams top 4 now they are just hedging their bets, ensuring an SEC team will be there in the end.

It doesn't really matter because in five days one of those teams won't be in the playoff

Not for sure on that. Could still be left out.

With 4-5 weeks left in the season... being a "9" is just fine. There will be teams that jump Iowa before it's over but there will be even more that drop below us if the Hawks win out.
As someone else stated... enjoy the ride!

#9 is a good spot for Iowa....

LSU-Alabama face each other
TCU-Baylor face each other
Michigan State-Ohio State face each other

Plus IF and a huge huge IF Iowa wins out, they would face a MSU/OSU team that is probably undefeated.

Baylor is already ahead of Iowa and would have beaten OU, Oklahoma State, and TCU. They would take Baylor.

Exactly this. Iowa is not necessarily a lock if they go undefeated. These rankings clearly show the committee does NOT prioritize undefeated teams. It is slightly concerning because Iowa is at 9 and needs to jump ahead 5 spots.

And this is why I have said multiple times it is not a foregone conclusion that winning out gets the Hawks in.

All one has to do is look at the teams above and you can make a case for them staying there. A great example is Bama beating LSU does not drop the Tigers below the Hawks.

I believe it will. Maybe not in the first week after they lose but as the weeks go by and Iowa keeps winning THEN wins a BTC game again an undefeated team from the east, they won't ignore that.

Yeah it will be interesting to see how things play out. IF, and it's a big if, Iowa were to win out (including over OSU or MSU in CCG) would the committee really drop LSU below Iowa if Alabama beats LSU? Let's say Alabama wins out and wins the SEC, Notre Dame wins out and Clemson wins out, would Iowa move ahead of Baylor or TCU if those teams win out? In that scenario, Baylor (if it wins out) would have beaten TCU, Oklahoma and Okie State. If TCU wins out, it would have beaten Baylor, Oklahoma, and Okie State. Hard to see how the committee jumps an undefeated Iowa over those teams, unless they just make the "OSU/B1G" adjustment like last year when TCU dropped from 3 to 6 after thrashing Iowa State.

You guys need to chill! There are 6 guaranteed losses left amongst the top 11 teams and VERY LIKELY more.

Let it play out. 13- 0 Iowa is in if they accomplish it.

Oh and BTW. I predicted a 10 win season on this board, before Betheard was named the starter, on the basis he was the starter. You're welcome.

I couldn't care much less. Win and we're in. Simple as that. People continuing to underestimate us works in our favor.

Ohio State entered the CFB rankings at 16 last year. Iowa is in their own driver's seat.

Why that doesn't mean anything for Iowa:

1) There was just 3 unbeatens left when that ranking came out. As OSU kept winning they jumped a number of one loss teams. Right now there's some 13 undefeated teams?
2). Ohio State has brand recognition. We pretend the committee is supposed to ignore that, but just look where they ranked one loss Alabama and Notre Dame teams today.

If we happen to go 13-0 and are left out of the CFP, I predict a lawsuit and an investigation of sorts. No way could they leave out an undefeated B1G Champion when last year's Nat Champion was a B1G team.

I am starting to think there needs to be a congressional investigation into the NCAA. Much like Fifa there seems to be a whole lot of collusion going on in this process. way too much money flying around these nonprofit endeavors.

If you compare teams thinking, "who do I think would beat whom on a neutral field?" Iowa's rank looks about right to my eyes. I personally have us 7th best right now, and yes with ND and Bama ahead.
