So I just wanted to see how most felt about the new emphasis placed on hand checking, Bumping guys off screens etc ended up changing this year, My personal thoughts, Early in the year it seemed like they really called it fairly closely and the flow of games looked pretty good, Towards the end of the season both in the Big and NCAA tourney it really looked like the same ol, Same ol to me. Not just talking about Iowa games, Just the general officiating throughout the land.

They'll never call it in the tournament, just like you see less penalties during the football playoffs and the Super Bowl. They just swallow their whistles in the tournament. Woodbury's push off at the end of the Temple game gets called 9 out of 10 times during the regular season but it will never get called at the end of a tournament game. This is why Iowa has to learn to get much more physical because when you get in the tournament the refs are going to allow more clutching, grabbing, hand checks, etc, and you have to be strong enough to play through this.

I dont care how they call it if they just stick to it, It's the inconsistency during a single game that is the most frustrating.

Yup agree!

I hate how they call all sorts of ticky tack fouls at one end and then let some pretty blatant fouls go at the other end. I hate how in every game under 1min, they let the grabbing/pushing and fouling go. I am sorry but most officials have to call it the same, but in the NCAA tournament they swallow their whistles. I don't know what to do, but the NCAA has to get some new blood into officiating and send some of these refs off into the distance. There are some really bad officials that worked weekend games and its just sad. Those guys are terrible all year long and they get rewarded with NCAA tournament games.

I would also like them to revamp the "review process" next year. I am sorry but this going to the monitor thing under 2min takes WAY TO LONG and they review some of the most obvious calls. They should have someone at the table to look at it and continue to play on. They just have way too many stoppages and they review some the easiest or pointless calls.

This is 100% dead on. Absolutely couldn't stand the end of any of the games. Then when they are reviewing the play.....the teams never come out of the "timeout" for another 20 seconds. Just terrible imo.

I often wonder if the refs call it differently toward the Big10 season verses the early games because the players are much bigger and faster and stronger. Not sure.

Tell that to Bob Huggins.

Another thing I would like to see is adding a foul per player. Instead of having it be 5 fouls, let it be 6. The reason I say that is, the refs are getting SOOOO bad w/the illegal screen calls. I mean the players are set and they are still getting called for illegal screens. If the refs are going to call that ticky tack crap, give the players an extra foul.

I'd guess that at least 70% of all screens are of the moving type. It's rarely called, unless your last name is Woodbury.

Personally, I loved the new emphasis of calling fouls for hand checking, grabbing, bumping etc. It was fun watching coaches like Izzo having hissy fits on the sidelines when his team was required to play by the rules of basketball. Unfortunately, there was a definite reversion to the old style of play which affected Iowa more than most teams. I think the Maryland game seemed to be the turning point and changed the tenor of our season.
