I don’t normally complain about refs especially when we win but there were some absolutely trash calls and no calls just wondering if some other people felt the way I did or saw some of these things, people around me certainly did.

1. For those of you who were at the game, because I’m not sure anyone on TV saw; second or third play from scrimmage when we went about 45-50 yards through the air to Keagan on a post route, he was being held the entire time. The. Entire. Time. The stadium went bat sh**. And the worst part about it, the ref was back peddling 10’ in front of Keagan and the defender stride for stride watching it. That would have put us right on the 15 yard line. This was the worst no call I saw all game.

2. Did ragaini fumble? Everyone in the stands seemed to think he didn’t but I only saw his hand down when the ball popped loose. But everyone literally thought the call would be overturned. Either way we can’t lose the ball there you gotta protect it.

3. Their spotting both ways on the line of gain was absolutely atrocious.

4. The holding call on Charlie’s 40 yard kick off return that put us on the 10 yard line essentially, in the second half. The ref was on the complete opposite side of the field on the 50 yard line, and called a hold. Literally one holding call all game otherwise on Joe Evan’s and you decide to put out the laundry then? My problem with it is he was so far away from the action, and on top of that the guy he called it on was on the weak side of the return so it was flowing away. At least from what I remember.

definitely the worst one was on Keagan, but the line of gain overturn were annoying, and it seemed to be the S ref that threw that flag on the kick off which is completely out of his realm of responsibilities according to my elite googling skills. So I’ve got a bone to pick with, the Down Judge and the Back Judge.

Ragaini without question fumbled. The replay confirmed this.

The officiating was fine yesterday. Holding could get called on about every play. Other than missed holding calls against Minnesota, I was fine with the officials.

I thought so too on ragaini I didn’t see what everyone around me was seeing.

I can tell you the overwhelming majority of the crowd in Kinnick was ready to run up on that ref after the Keagan no call but it was super early in the game. Agreed holding could literally be called every play but that was kind of why I was pissed the side judge called it on a kick off after they brought it back within 2, on a good return, when it hasn’t been called all day, when he was possibly the further person on the field away from the hold in question. I digress.

Win is a win and I’m happy about it

This. It's on the defense to expose holding when you're getting it regularly. This is probably the toughest O line our D will face this season...bunch a hogs.

Campbell not getting tossed for targeting was a good break.

This.

We have had much worse officials. They were significantly better than last week.

That said, I have hard time believing our entire DL was unable to shed a single block for entire game, and Minnesota wasn’t holding the living shit out of them. Several bad holds missed on the edge, but that is the norm anymore. They could probably just eliminate the rule in college. It doesn’t get called.

My question was where was that goaline camera on the punchout of ball by Hankins? And who set that goalline camera tilted at an angle...were they drunk?...it's not staight down the line like it should be.

Refs didn't bother me as much as the TV announcers constantly trying to find any video evidence possible to turnback positive Iowa plays. Then if something did go in Iowa favor, seemingly upset by that.

They could also eliminate D holding in the passing game in college and the NFL. Every team does it nearly every play.

Keagan was loose on that play where he was held, like the guy had him by the arm and the jersey, there was no hand fighting he was flat out beat and the ref was staring it down the whole time. I couldn’t believe it, and it was at minimum a 50 yard gain. That would have been our first touchdown on our first possession since Indiana… yikes kind of sad. As the game went on I kind of forgot about it when we were winning but in the moment I was screaming along with everyone else. Can’t get all the calls though.

I wasn’t at the game last week but I watched from home so it’s just two different perspectives on officials, from your couch and actually in the stadium. You definitely miss things both ways, as a fan.

It really does go both ways in every game, for instance this was a terrible (thankfully) non call against Iowa that gave ZVB the huge sack on that second to last drive for the Gophers.
I feel like they were letting them slug it out in the trenches but defensive holding on an interior defensive lineman is a tough call to make horizontally ESPECIALLY in crunch time.

Good point though it went both ways as depicted here and it definitely gave us some benefits! Kirk after the game was respectful of the refs and actually said when they picked up the chop block flag on minnesotas 68 yard touchdown, he appreciated them coming over to him and being honest about thinking they saw one but decided it wasnt there. Back to the point they were letting the lines play and not calling much in the trenches

The Ragaini fumble was very clear and anyone thinking otherwise had blinders on.
I could see how people in the stadium would think he didn't fumble, depending on which replays they showed on the scoreboards. But upon review, they got the call right. As for the missed holding/pass interference on Keegan, what they showed on TV looked like holding, but only a little bit. However, they didn't show the entire run, just the end of the play.

It's always pi$$ed me off when I hear people complain about officiating. And I've always wanted to ask this question, so here goes.
For those who show a tendency to complain about officiating (in any sport), have you ever been on the field/court to officiate a game? If not, you really need to make the effort to do so before you go b¡t¢h¡ng about the officials.
It's not as easy as you might think it is, and it will definitely change your perspective on the job that they do.
Are mistakes made? Absolutely. But are those mistakes enough to be the deciding factor in a game? Highly unlikely.
During the OU-Baylor game yesterday, Rattler's first series, a long pass incomplete but painfully obvious pass interference was missed. Did that make the difference in the game? No way. Many other factors contributed to the OU loss before you could say that call was a factor.

That ragaini fumble review was odd. Literally everyone around us thought he was down during the stadium replay but I thought it was pretty clearly a fumble. I still booed though because thats what you do.

Could someone explain the flag that got picked up on that long MN touchdown in the 4th? I didn't see what happened but it seemed dumb.

My only complaint (probably more legit things to complain about) is that we can piece together a replay of multiple angles of a spot on the 40 yd line, but we only get one angle of the goal line replay. Which wasn’t even directly down the goal line.

They called a chop block on a play that was only a cut block. The Iowa defender was never engaged high. He ran into the LOS and was cut (only). It was a good no call.

From a bad angle a ref could easily assume he was being blocked high and low, but it was obvious that he wasn’t. One could make an argument of an illegal cut block, but it certainly wasn’t a chop block that was originally called.

They called a chop block but it wasn’t there. KF explained it in the post game with Dolph

I agree on the potential punch out fumble. The only angle available apparently was from the Iowa sideline as that's the only one the tv crew showed as well. It sure looked close even from that awful view.

Yeah it was just way too close to call, not enough to overturn. Plus I think Minnesota earned thay one. Good play call

If we got the fumble Iowa would have earned it too.

I can't believe they don't have 4 extra cameras that they can set up looking straight down the goaline from both sides on each endzone. It's 2021 and they can't afford 4 more cameras for each game? Come on.

Both the Goodson TD that was overturned and the MN touchdown/possible fumble…I thought the call on the field should have stood on both without a camera straight down the goal line. Goodson on the closest replay looked like he was likely just short but idk how they could overturn that without a better angle down the goal line. Ironically I do think on rewatch that Hankins did knock that ball out but didn’t have an issue with the call standing without that better angle.

I’ll complain about bad officiating if I think it’s an egregious error, and only rarely have I felt they directly impacted the outcome of a game. See outback bowl v Florida or b10 tourney v Sparty a few years back.

I don’t disagree. idk why we don’t have more cameras there. Seemed like he broke the plane live and Hankins punched it as he was planting his foot like 3 feet accross the line. But yeah wish we could have seen multiple angles but I wasn’t going to complain too much about that one cuz we got gashed on a smart play call on 4th down.

See the Pittsburg vs Chicago game last week too. Lol

also I thought Goodson was clearly across on his touchdown, he stretched for it and both knees didn’t come down until he slammed the ball down on the line, then he pulled it back toward him short of the line. Let’s start a GoFundMe page for some damn pylon cams FFS @Keehawk lol

Because that’s where Keagan would have caught it. So If he did drop it after beating his guy and we got the flag, we still would have been on their side of the field I think we were around our 40/45 yard line.

also shouldn’t have said “held the entire time” the defender held him but not towards the very end because he had caught up to him from pulling him back so he kind of pulled his hand off so he didn’t draw the penalty, but he basically hung onto him the first 2 seconds of his route.

How bout the "wait five seconds and throw a phantom PI" in the Miami/OSU championship game? I have a friend who officiated who swore to his dying day that was the right call. Officials never admit they were wrong. That is a big reason so many fans despise them.

I know that, but if we are on our 40 and they commit it more than 15 yards downfield, it’s 15 yards from the LOS, meaning we are in their territory. Only on the 15 yard line if Keagan pulls it down which I am confident he would have.
