Oh well silly me, now the tariffs make sense to me

Well, looking at the action, I think it is possible that the person who enacted this hopes it is very bad for America.
How does Mysk have all this power? Who elected him? Who vetted him? Who does he answer to? Where does his “power” come from in the Constitution? (Remember that pesky little document your boy took an oaths to uphold..2 weeks ago!)
The irony of MAGA having to support a non-elected foreign national who got here on a green card is pretty hilarious, you have to admit.

No, it's incredibly vague. Exactly how many people are coming across the border from Canada? What number does he want to see? Same with fentanyl.

Same with Mexico. Somebody needs to be able to state exactly what the expectations are.

And balance out their trade? What? Your goal isn't to have balanced trade with everyone -- it's to optimize trade for your country.
Well I guess we are learning a little more now as Mexico has made some concessions and we have paused the tariffs for one month. This is what leadership and strength looks like. Not capitulation and weakness that was prior administration was famous for.

They work for us.

Supposedly.
So, you “expect” to know, for instance, all our military/nuclear secrets too? I’m being somewhat sarcastic here, but we elect our gov’t officials to do a job and I don’t think they need to be micro-managed? You must have more time for on your hands than I do to check on them. 😉

Are you really trying to compare trade policy to nuclear secrets?

No…it was simply an example (likely a poor one), but there are many, many daily functions/decisions that our federal, state, and local governments do….sounds like that poster (and possibly you) want to know every detail behind such decisions? If so, knock yourself out. I’ve got a life.

It makes sense because now Mexico has agreed to make some requested moves and we have agreed to pause the tariffs one month. Weird.
Oh sure. That's meaningful and will fix the problem. It certainly is worth all the uncertainty and anxiety it is causing people.

Uncertainty and anxiety are part of life. Our President is taking control and demanding, via action, respect from the rest of the world. And he is getting it.

The point that cant be escaped is that in the prior 4 years Mexico did NONE OF THIS. Are we now going to say that Mexican troops at the border arent going to be effective stemming the drug and immigration tide.

This is 100% a concession and Trumps tactic seems to have worked with incredible speed.

Trump pausing the tariffs after concessions is not losing. You are losing if a threat is made and you give in.

Those that are saying that Trump lost because he paused the tariffs are going to have to explain to me how Mexico doing something we asked for, rather than threatening something we didnt ask for, is a way to win for Mexico. Its Trump hating revisionist history is what that is.

Wow…you should get a job in the government if you want such details. 🥴

Glad I don’t by as I would be wondering if I have a job today.

You seriously don’t believe in transparency in the govt? Especially something that affects us all like this.

I mean we're talking about a president that is ranting about making Canada the 51st state via tariffs on social media.

Forgive me if I don't have total confidence in the man.

Glad for you… bad for me…being retired I really don’t have your advantage. Lost $$ is pretty much lost $$ for me at this point in the game.
I’m retired now. I took an early out. I’ve made a shit load of money and you have also, or you’ve made some bad choices.

Maybe you chould check the markets. They have rebounded after this news.

I guess that market thinks this is a win for America. Some of you need to get on board.

Wow! Like I said, it will bounce back. Try looking at the Dow, S&P

It very well may bounce up and down for a while. You guys know how this works. But I believe in the long run here it will jump higher than ever. Let’s all cross our fingers.🤞🤞

So, you actually believe our government (regardless of Dem’s or R’s in-charge) provide public transparency on all their decisions? 😳

43 pounds of fentanyl were seized at the US-Canada border in 2024 according to an article I read in the Wall Street journal this morning. That can fit in 1 duffel bag.

It’s a disengenuous and non-factual excuse by Trump. BAU.
Come on torbee.

The typical quoted oral lethal dose is 2mg. The therapeutic dose is 0.025-0.050mg or 25-50mcg IV for reference.

This 43lbs. That is 9 million lethal doses. Thats significant IMO.

Fentanyl deaths happen every single day. It is adulterated into stuff like fake Adderall that the college kids get from friends. This isnt just mixed in with opioids. You probably know that but not all do.

On major decisions like this? Absolutely.

Most of us are aware it is because trump is jealous of the way his wife looks at Trudeau.

So, you guys actually think the federal gov’t “owes” you all the “details” on their tariff strategies? 😳
The details will be shared in two weeks — just like the details of the heathcare plan.

83% chance it was brought by an American.

The tariffs are the economic equivalent of an own goal. Rooting for tariffs is rooting against US interests. Unfortunately Trump supporters are ignorant about how this all works.

MAGA complains that libs call them stupid. Then they support stupid people and stupid tariff policies.

If they stopped being so stupid maybe people would stop calling them stupid.
My entire life, tariffs were a major plank of the Democratic Party. Until like 2016 exactly. You’re saying Democrats have been stupid for the 50 years before Trump?

Yes.

You can find posts from me going back years talking about the advantages of free trade. I don’t care if Trump implements them, Biden implements them or Jesus Christ himself implements them…tariffs are a bad idea with very few exceptions.
