And one COSTLY offseason move turned out to be with what they did at the QB position.

In the offseason, Ryan Day showed starting QB Kyle McCord the door in the favor of a transfer portal option that turned out to be Kansas State QB Will Howard.

McCord landed at Syracuse.

Yesterday, as Will Howard struggled in a loss to Michigan, throwing two costly interceptions, McCord was up in Syracuse out-dueling the nation's best quarterback, Cam Ward, in a thrilling comeback 42-38 win over #6 Miami.

Down 21-0 early in the second quarter, McCord erupted for 380 yards and three touchdowns on 26 of 36 passes.

When asked after the game about beating Miami while his former school Ohio State lost to Michigan yet again, McCord had the perfect response.

"Everything comes full circle," McCord said.

This season McCord passed for 4,326 yards, completed 66% of his passes, and had 29 TDs and 12 INTs for the Orange (9-3).

Sure. But they’ll be over it when the matchups come out next week. Plus they’ll get another home game in the shoe now, trust me their fragile egos will survive
You obviously don't know how big of a deal it is for Michigan's or OSU's coach to lose "The Game" multiple years in a row. Especially against a shitty Michigan team like they had this year. He may need semi appearance to survive. A national championship not to be on the hot seat.

It will be interesting to see if Ohio State, the 4th best team in the B1G, can somehow make the CFP Final Four. Ohio State should, but, then again, they should have beaten Michigan at home yesterday.

I’m not saying it’s not a big deal. I’m saying it won’t be the thing that determines him being fired or not.

Harbaugh lost 5 in a row. Other factors still matter more.

Their ultimate goal is winning a national championship. As long as they make the CFP, they have a shot and the losses to Oregon and Michigan will be a footnote.

The conference getting potentially 4 teams into the playoff gives these teams the opportunity to stumble a couple times and make it.

Well let's see, first place is an undefeated team, second place in two one loss teams, and third place is OSU with 2 losses.

Ohio State is in third place. They all played an equal number of games and right now at the end of the season Penn st and Indiana are tied for second place, TIED. The only thing that differentiates them is a tie-breaker to determine which one will face ORegon.

The major point here is it is a tie-breaker which must mean IU and PSU are Tied for second place.

So to me Iowa and Ilinois finished tied for 4th/fourth place. these are placeholders

As I have said many times, the PGA is about the only organization that would say Oregon wins the golf tourney and gets first place money, IU and PSU share 2nd and 3rd place money since they TIED for second, which means OSU gets FOURTH place money for finishing with the actual third best score.

Do any of you think Baylor and the other two teams with 3 losses in the Big 12 finished in 5th place because there are 4 teams that are tied for first place with 2 losses. No their placeholder is 2nd place as the 4 teams ahead of them are tied for first.

No, Baylor and those other 2 teams finished in second place in the standings.

If the regents at OSU are still thinking like they did in the John Cooper era, they’ll fire Day and replace him with someone who doesn’t go 47-1 against non-UM opponents.
College football has changed. It is now about the playoffs, not individual rivalries. OSU should be perfectly happy losing to Michigan as long as they make the playoffs and occasionally win it all.

Will always be against Oregon & Ohio State for their payroll alone.
That $20 million roster was really publicized this year but I have to believe a few teams - Oregon, Texas, TAMU - and a few others dwarfed that figure. Those two Texas QBs - Ewers and Manning - have (supposedly) $10 in endorsements between them. That Oregon QB - Gabriel - around $4 to 5 million. CF is definitely no longer amateur.

Ohio St has had the same problems the KC Chiefs have had and have, poor OTackle play.

Ohio St had their big time left tackle get hurt some weeks ago, not sure if he is back but they were having trouble at that position.

And the last time Pat Mahomes lost a super bowl their OTackles were not great and Tampa Bay ate them alive and sacked Mahomes and hit him all game long.

Michigan was caving in the pocket yesterday. OSU should win their first playoff game but if Mich can beat them any CFP team can

$40 per game ticket adder. Raise half from outside sources and then down to $20 per ticket adder per game. That's like two extra Kinnick beers per game.
That's one option, for sure. Depends on if you want to put going to a game out of reach for a significant portion of the fan base though. Because that number won't stay at $40.

Yep, you hit the nail on the head. In fact, their entire OL has been subpar for the last 2 to 3 years and it's cost them bigtime. In the past, OSU has had the depth to fix it........for whatever reason, not the case anymore

Yeah. Raise what you can from other sources and use a ticket adder to fill the gap needed. We aren't shooting for the top NIL. Maybe # 20.

Put a toll on anyone coming in and out of Nebraska and has a Nebraska driver's license.

I really don't think that there is a clear cut favorite to win the NC this year. Anyone of 6 to 8 teams have a shot. I realize that everyone is slamming OSU right now, but that is a very dangerous team in the Playoffs With all of that NFL talent. Their weakness - a bozo for a HC

Losing to Michigan use to mean losing the big ten and missing playoff.

It doesn’t any more.

Win a national title and he can survive losing to Michigan a lot more than coaches in the past could.

They are still going to make the CFP which is all that really matters.
So is that all that matters to Iowa State?

;)

You- "No, but-"

Ahh, ahh, ahh. You said making the CFP is all that really matters. Next time specify who that matters to as the end-all, be-all. You're welcome............

They ain’t winning the natty this year. Nowhere close to disciplined enough. Plus, they likely lost the home game.

In the new world of CFB, correct, that’s going to be the standard everybody is trying to achieve. It’s Like the NCAA tournament in basketball. The NIT will still exist (bowls) but nobody cares outside the participating teams.

I'll hold you to that for your team then.

We'll see how little you celebrate ISU football in the coming seasons they don't make the playoff.

Thank you for making this easy, Bryce. ;)

Why do they turtle up in big games?

I honestly don't think Day survives this unless they make the national title game (hell, he might have to win it all)

Expectations are HUGE in Columbus. Patience is thin.

We'll see.

The OSU defense is great, but that offense isn't what they'd hoped it would be. The rushing game is middle of the pack and the red zone numbers aren't great either. The oline has had some injuries impacting their effectiveness. They aren't winning anything this year.

Big red flag when the Bucks only beat this soft Iowa team by 4 TDs. Most knew then that this team wasn't clicking.

Rivalry game. If tOSU shows up on your bracket line, you best be ready. They're still going to be some of the favorites to win it.
