Ohio State cornerback skips bowl game to enter draft

I honestly see both sides in this matter. But If I were an NFL GM, I would heavily consider the team first player over the me first player.

Teams in the nfl sit healthy guys all the time when theres nothing to play for.

Bowls are nothing.
you yeah well if you look at the kids playing these games and their reaction when they win or lose their a lot more than just nothing. Sometimes the cynicism of fans drives me crazy

If it's a financial thing and you voluntarily skip a game, then I would expect the given university to send a bill in the mail for tuition (whatever that averages out to be).

Why not skip the last 2 games. 4 games? 6?

If I was an NFL GM I would most likely pass on a player who skips his last college game. Could he get hurt? Sure, and of course its his right. That's a risk you want a player to take for his teammates.
Exactly right. Evidently he has the right to sit out, and the NFL GM's have every right not to draft the guy in the first few rounds as well.....

College players who've done the work to earn themselves a high draft pick have every right to skip a bowl game to protect their future earnings. A lot of these guys come from dirt poor backgrounds. Their NFL contract can change their family's future for generations.
Yep, like Christian McCaffery.

I really hate this trend of great players skipping bowl games and it bothers me as a fan. However, I've never had millions of dollars at stake and had to decide whether or not to risk it to play one more game. So I certainly won't criticize the player for making the choice that he thinks is best for him.

I agree with this. It's a very big decision. I don't care for it, but I'm not going to go all ape-sh*t because someone skips a bowl game.

Just like they had the right not to draft Jaylon Smith in the first round after he destroyed his knee in the Fiesta Bowl. The players have to look out for themselves, no one else is going to. If you're going to be a high pick, you have a lot to lose to win an exhibition game.

Just curious if he was a 5 star guy.....I can't blame him, it is a business decision, especially if he is going in the first couple of rounds. But I wondered if he was a five star guy or a guy who has been pampered and put on a pedestal, told how great he is,etc and team really doesn't come first for him because it's always been about him....We see this in baseball a little bit, guys go to their private coaches, their show cases, Perfect game stuff and are more focused on their end game then on their team and playing team baseball. We are seeing more kids skip their junior or senior season to play on travel teams because they feel they will get more exposure.
I guess what im saying is a lot of people feel that kids feel so entitled nowadays and they aren't team players, etc. I don't necessarily agree with this theory, there is an awful lot of high character kids out there.

You absolutely have the right and I don't see anyone stating otherwise. Similarly, people have the right to view it negatively. I do. You take a risk every time you step on the field, and in my opinion, not being willing to take that risk one last time after everything you've been thru with your teammates is a red flag. That's it, just a consideration, I'm not going ape-sh*t and don't see anyone else doing that either.
