OK, so now what does our lineup look like?

I wish I saw what other people see in Ayala. He’s been a fairly one trick pony and not a lot of big wins to warrant the talk of a high AA. I’d eat crow gladly if he does.

Spencer pinned him so he must suck  In reality, he hasn't had a full season. As a true freshman, he beat a few gatekeeper types (Schroeder, Deaugustino) but had issues with McKee. Love Drake's motor. Hopefully has improved his on mat skills...but he has the talent to both AA and give himself a shot at a title.

I defintely think a large portion of his detractors aren't accounting for how debilitating a shoulder injury can be. Ayala looked like he was improving substantially every match, until the injury. He still managed to scrap like a warrior against solid B1G competition and at least win a match at NCAA's with essentially 1 arm.

I definitely am with you on hoping his mat wrestling has improved. Still, I truly believe all signs point to him being a legit contender if he stays healthy. Remember, the only guy he has lost to in his last 20 matches is Spencer Lee,,,

I agree with all that, he hasn’t done it yet so it’s hard to get so high on someone unproven. I believe he can AA but I also can see bad matchups bouncing him.

If you like him at all, that list should make you optimistic. The weakest 125 field in quite a while. I don’t know if he gets it done, but the opportunity is there.
I do like him, a lot.
With the advent of the three point takedown, the strategy should be wrestling for takedowns as much as possible. There’s no reason to put him underneath, figure this out in the room.

Stay healthy and earn a top 2 seed for Nationals and the chances of getting bounced change, a lot.

Would the Sebolt boot scoot that everyone generically calls a slide by be his one trick? He could be better if he’s healthy. Maybe not under the Brands bros, but he has/had potential,

Wait, wait, wait... Are you calling a slide-by a boot scoot? Technically, its an overtie shrug/throw-by/slide-by

But, Lincoln McIlravy would like you to take a seat.

You make an interesting point. Why waste time choosing down and risk getting worn/rode out on bottom (assuming you can get a TD)? The 3-point TD could (maybe should) change strategy.

I am a big fan of Ayala. However, my expectations are tempered at this point.

Current WIN TPI Rankings. Drake needs to work his way up through these guys. I’ll be a lot more optimistic, when he shows he can handle McKee.
Not including bonus points, there is a 7 point difference between 4th and 7th. He needs to peak at Nationals for the Hawks to have a shot at 2nd. Go Hawks!
I think he can finish top 3 out of this group. I'm not overly impressed with any of them outside of the kid from Lock Haven. Ramos had a big day at NCAAs last year...and sadly it happened at the worst possible time for all of us. I'm feeling good about a top 3 if Drake can stay healthy.

I seriously lost a year and I just can’t remember Drake’s go to move. I just assumed that was what it was and I know guys like Cullan and to greater extent Lincoln dominated with it. Can you compare his slide by to another wrestler’s SB for me? If anyone can you’d be the guy with your PBP skills.

Fix - but Ayala's is a bit wilder (wider shuffle step)

125 is really down. It's perfect timing for Ayala. He's good enough to win it.
