Ok so we played 3 garbage teams.

Not sure what we have learned so far. Our guards are not good yet. PK is a concern. LBs are better than most thought.

Our starting D basically allowed 3 total points in all 3 games. That is crazy. Rest of their points were 2nd string scrub time. D line has looked great. Linebackers have stepped up and Dbacks looked good so far, which is helped by the pressure created by Dline.

Our offense always seems to take a bit to click. Best TE combo in country. RBs looking strong. Two starting tackles out week 1, trying different combos, etc but group looks to be coming into their own, granted it was UNI, but still a top 100 team. How did Nebbie do against Troy, basically same ranking by Sagarin as UNI 94/96. Receiver has been question mark and Easley looks solid, and hopefully ISM comes back healthy and can stretch the field.

UNI scored on the first teamers last night.

Only teams who are NOT garbage on schedule - WI, PSU

Delaney's dream is becoming reality. The best teams in the league have enough fluff teams to play that they do not rack up losses and the new teams (Rutgers, Nebby and Maryland) are nothing but hired fodder to pad wins for the Big Ten's long time powers. If Wisconsin and PSU end up with three or four losses each this year, it is possible Iowa could play an entire season without any of the opponents being ranked in the final AP poll.

Yes, UNI scored on our first team D, but they were not playing the same D they played the prior three qtrs. It looked more like a form of the prevent D. We let them complete everything under 10 yards for what I saw. And for the person that said every team we played is garbage? NIU the following week had a chance to beat Utah until the very end, and Iowa State basically played head to head with Oklahoma, so please, someone define garbage opponent? Not to mention, most football experts picked ISU to beat us. LOL

I get a kick out of this. So ISU is garbage, but they beat Oklahoma last year, and played them a pretty solid game, looking much better against them they did against Iowa? Seriously? Niu is a solid football team. WAY better that the second tier teams most of these teams play. Why is it so important to rundown anything that the Hawks do?.......

I think ISU is a very solid team this year, we will see. They gave Oklahoma all they wanted.

Anyone else growing tired of these trolls pretending to be Iowa fans? What a bunch of pathetic losers.

Delaney's move to add teams was a money grab and was not in any way a move to strengthen the league in regards to on field/court results. Having more teams means less conference losses for the elite teams if they can avoid playing each other much like the SEC has been doing for years. I appreciate the money for the coffers, but the move dilutes the product and sucks to see traditional rivalries like Iowa vs OSU go AWOL for years at a time to where Iowa misses out on many of the best teams in some years like this year might be. Just sucks IMO.

Penn St, Nebraska, Maryland, Rutgers are the add ons.
Only Penn St. has been a powerhouse while in the Big
Ten Conference. For sentimental reasons the original
Big 10 was built for geographic proximity. Now the Big
14 is built on financial reasons.

Bottom Line: The Good Old Days are gone and we just
have to adjust.

Who give's a rat's as_? We play the people who are on our schedule. We only have control of two games I think!!! You must be related to Colin Cowherd.

this is why iowa gets killed in bowls lately. {except NYC]

I would say that Iowa (& B1G as whole) have been getting killed because of two reasons.

1) Iowa travels well and plays in bowls beyond what they’ve earned on the field.

2) The B1G generally has two teams in BCS level bowls, which bumps the other teams up a bowl to better comp.

There are exceptions to these though. Last year, Iowa was exactly where they should have been. The same is true for the 2015 season with the Rose Bowl.

The ones that we played. Defined

Hmmm ... I am not sure I would classify our first three opponents as "garbage." Just ask Northwestern, Nebraska, Arkansas, Purdue, Wisconsin, Florida State ... about playing "garbage" teams. I think our schedule is working out perfectly for this team ... We had the UNI game to get the confidence factor going on offense ... I think this Iowa team will continue to improve as the season progresses.

Well, actually, ISU and NIU are not terrible....I expect both of them to be bowl eligible. NIU will probably win the MAC. Our punting has actually been really good...like 3rd in the nation good. FGs could use a little work but we haven't completely blown it. We are top 5-10 in many defensive categories. Wisconsin didn't exactly have a stellar NC schedule either and they got beat by BYU at home.

What were you hoping to have happen?

And you generally schedule teams a few years in advance, so you don’t always know what kind team you are getting other than the name.

Look at Florida State. I’m sure teams thought they were scheduling a solid top 10 team, but they have been garbage this year.
Yeah, the term "Garbage team" is arbitrary. Most years I would have probably agreed that ISU might be a garbage team, but when they are picked to beat us, then I guess the people calling them garbage also assume we're garbage. LOL

I wouldn't mind the Big Ten going to 16 teams, then stop. Two schools that make sense geographically. Like Pittsburgh or Missouri, maybe do I dare say Iowa State.
Yes on Missouri and Pitt. Hell no on ISU. They could donate their cut of the BIG monies to the remaining teams every year, and I still wouldn't want them in. No upside for Iowa there.

Unless Notre Dame comes to the table asking for an invite, the Big 10 won't pull anyone within the current region. The continue to want to expand their footprint and in turn an expansion of the Big 10 Network viewing area, which why they invited a crappy school like Rutgers. A school like Rutgers provides nothing else.

This also the reason why the Big 10 would elect to play their Big 10 basketball tournament in DC and NYC. Doesn't make sense otherwise and arguable doesn't make sense either way.

Just go to four 16 team regions: East, Southeast, Midwest, West. Have two 8 team sub divisions in each region.

Divide up the Big 12 into those regions. That should leave out one team if Notre Dame decides to join. Or works out perfectly if ND wants to remain independent. If that’s the case, black ball ND so that no one plays them.

Work out a nice deal with ESPN and Fox for TV rights.

I have no problem with the schedule. UNI is not good this year, but ISU and N.Ill will be competitive. Not great but good. Just what Iowa needed.

That's not correct, actually.

Yeah, it is.
On UNI’s 2nd TD, these were the Hawk players on the field.
DL Golston, Lattimore, Reiff, A.J.
LB Hockaday, Colbert, Niemann
DB Hankins, Stone, Milani, OJ

Looks like a lot of first teamers to me.
These guys were also in for the majority of the drive that resulted in UNI’s 2nd TD.
You probably saw Milani and Stone and figured it was 2nd and 3rd stringers.

The group that was in on UNI’s last TD drive were not “2nd string scrub guys”. But if it makes you feel better ........ OK. All but Milani, Colbert and Stone were either starters or rotating in all game long.
