is reading Register Randy's pompous, gloating, smug folo story on the decision. Avoid unless you enjoy throwing up in your mouth. Someone else noticed RR running up to XF with a big grin on his face. His lack of professionalism is shocking for a paper that professes to be independent.

Re the XF decision, the quote from him that jumped out was that he enjoyed being around ISU players. They have a cadre of black players that XF connected with. Iowa does not have such a unit. . The 'success' quote from mama sounded like made-for-media tripe.

I've never read Randy Peterson and I have no interest in starting now.

People can speculate all they want. I really don't believe the NBA angle. I think it's just a convenient go to that's more palatable publicly. There are plenty of other schools with more of a visible imprint in the NBA than Iowa State.

My guess is it's as simple as he spent a lot of time in Ames and bonded with the players. It's possible too Fran rubbed him the wrong way by screaming and ranting in games. The fact Iowa doesn't have a lot of racial diversity right now could also factor in.

I will say this: If Iowa had a younger coach not with two sons on the team and perhaps with some more brothas, he'd be a Hawkeye.

Randy Pete doesnt cover Iowa for the Register, so he doesnt have a chance to poke them.

It's just one recruit. Nothing to see here.

If it's any consolation, most State fans can't stand Randy, either. He's getting pretty long in the tooth, and just asks stupid, inappropriate, sometimes offensive questions.

Randy Peterson does nothing for the Register other than promote all things ISU. He doesn't offer news. He doesn't offer tempered, reasoned analysis. He only boosts the clones like he is on ISU's payroll. I remember him writing an article GUARANTEEING Lazard would get drafted. I remember him writing an article talking this ISU football team being special, nationally prominent, and ready to compete for a Big 12 title. Well . . . they're 5-4. And after every loss he writes an article that sounds like they just won.

Look at his twitter. He tweets out the same story over and over and over and over again so they will get clicks and get on the trending page of DMR's website (which coincidentally is only ISU articles). He has tweeted that XF story like 5 times.

Liestekow doesn't do the same thing. In fact, I listened to a podcast with Liestekow last week where he said flat out the Iowa basketball team would struggle this year and would be a success if they won 18 games. He was not boosting the hawks, he was offering reasonable, objective analysis.

Peterson is a joke and DMR should be ashamed to call him a journalist.

xavier is half white. Why would the race of his teammates matter?

That's funny. Cyclone fans were bitching because the story made it look like he was Iowa's but something happened.

It’s not the fact that nearly every kid on the Iowa roster is white, it’s that most of them have a talent level better suited for Grinnell or St. Cloud State.

oh, well a lot of other schools and recruiting analysts missed on their evals then

You don't really believe that, do you? He's the biggest homer around.

Leistikow is very good. His story on Bohannon's brother is the best thing I've seen in a while. Remember, as a beat reporter, Leistikow has to maintain access to Iowa coaches, players. He's not an ESPN word warrior who sits in a New York office torching someone he will never have to face. Peterson is another story. Worst homer this side of Omaha.

Foster wasn't going to make or break Iowa hoops. We will see how things go at ISU. It was his decision to make, but he needs to realize that ISU is heavily reliant on transfers and will have no problem recruiting over him. It would not surprise me if he doesn't finish at ISU. I don't follow ISU too closely, but have they graduated a 4-year player in recent history? As far as Foster going to the NBA in 1-2 years, I will believe it when I see it. Horton-Tucker and Mitrou-Long kicking it in the D league with Dev, Baer and lots of other higher powered college talent.

Xavier who ?

I’ll take the Big 10-ready (size wise), chip on his shoulder, out to prove something, powerful but good touch Ogundele over the laid back, multiple years out from being able to handle Big 10 physicality, eyes on the NBA, athletic but poor shooting Foster.

Not sour grapes. Been saying the same thing for a month

Guys - I have been hearing from the AAU circuit for the past three years that other than the PR headaches of not getting him, Iowa would be better off not landing him. Let it play out. DJ Carton was a miss.....this not so much.

How recent?

Niang, Morris, Naz Long and Matt Thomas were all 4 or 5 year guys at ISU. Weiler Babb spent 4 years at ISU, 1 sitting out and 3 as a player.

Leistikow can write good articles and still be a complete homer. He is, in no way, "fair, rational, objective". Peterson just sucks.

Never underestimate the power of a girlfriend.

'Ol "Register Randy" is simply an extension of the Iowa State sports information department.
THIS. Register Randy may actually set the record this year for writing stories that blatantly blame the officials for clone football losses. I believe I'm correct in saying that he wrote articles blaming bad calls by officials after the Iowa game, Baylor game, and now Oklahoma game....and he also took time out of his busy schedule to pump up a conspiracy theory that the bad call that happened near the end of the Baylor vs. Texas Tech game (that helped Baylor win), was likely going to factor into preventing the clones from making the Big 12 title game.

The guy literally has no shame, but that said - I can't think of a better media representative for the clone fan base.

You’re right. I’m pretty positive that he’s written at least 3 articles blaming the refs.

And it was only October! No respectable journalist should write 3 articles blaming the refs throughout their 40 year career.

Pretty pathetic actually.
