Obligatory question:

Do you only "enjoy" the Hawks when they win?

Can you point to a loss, that you attended, that you came away still happy/excited/whatever about what you watched and to attend the next one?

With how large tv's are getting it's so much easier to watch the game on a 70"+ screen with your friends/family.

No drive/parking, no weather issues, obviously a lot cheaper, etc.

I think this can duplicate a lot of the social interaction people get from tailgaiting when you set up a a game watch party with friends and family.

I think you are right...to the extent one only tailgates with their immediate group. There are many people who love the atmosphere of thousands of tailgaters, mingling and conversing outside of their own group.

I think we are becoming a shut-in society. Drive to work, drive to the store, drive home, watch tv alone. Rinse and repeat. Much less social interaction, except online (like here!). Obviously if that is what you prefer, staying home is quite appealing.

I actually think the same about concerts. You get better audio at home, perfected by the artist. You aren't in a mob of people yelling and screaming.

I think sports are different for one, admittedly very illogical, reason: The outcome is yet to be determined, and goddamnit, I am doing my best to influence it in my team's favor!
