OT: Bowl weather

So they play the Pinstripe Bowl in 20-degree weather outdoors in Yankee Stadium while they play the Fiesta Bowl indoors on a cloudless 75-degree day in Phoenix. That Arizona Cardinals' stadium doesn't even have a retractable roof so folks can get a glimpse of an absolutely perfect day. Seems right given the way college football is run these days. Makes perfect sense.

Not only is the roof retractable so is the playing surface. They rotate it outside to get sunlight, water it and allow the floor to be used for other purposes.

The 63,400-seat stadium opened on August 1, 2006 after three years of construction. The stadium was designed by Eisenman Architects and HOK Sport (now Populous).[12] The stadium is considered an architectural icon for the region and was named by Business Week as one of the 10 “most impressive” sports facilities on the globe due to the combination of its retractable roof (engineering design by Walter P Moore) and roll-in natural grass field,[13] similar to the GelreDome and the Veltins-Arena.[14] The ceremonial groundbreaking for the new stadium was held on April 12, 2003.

I don't get the OP. Two bowls, two cities, each doing what they want. No relation between the two.

Yeah, but college football! It's ... awful! I mean, it was cold in NYC! And, warm in AZ! WTH? Why wasn't in warm in NY?? I mean, like ice and stuff! College football!! So stupid! Mom, where's my meatloaf?!

I've been wrong on HR a time or two myself.

Here, I'll take a bullet with you.

Yep.

I really do wonder if they will evaluate some of these bowls and wonder if it's best for athletes. I would then like to see some of bowl games just dropped, not replaced.

None of this will happen.

The PInstripe Bowl makes no sense from a fan's point
of view. Who wants to take a winter vacation to New
York City? Fans prefer to travel to Florida, Texas, or
California and Arizona and keep warm.

Bowls are about making money and that will not change
anytime soon. Most folks do not attend a college football
game in a cold weather city iif they have a choice of a warm
weather city.

The roof was NOT open for the Fiesta Bowl game. It IS retractable, but it WAS NOT OPEN for the bowl game despite it being 75 degrees.

And I've been in the place, and it's the WORST football stadium I have ever visited, and I've been in a few over the last 50 years or so. The best seats in the house are in the small end zone. Fifty-yard-line seats are a mile from the field.

If you enjoy watching ant farms, you'd love watching a game in that monstrosity.

And BTW, the point remains. What the hell sense does it make to play a bowl game outdoors in NYC and INDOORS (with the famous retractable roof CLOSED) in Phoenix?

Hope you didn't waste too many brain cells on that brilliant retort.
