In March, 2024, Gumbel missed his first NCAA tournament since 1997 due to what he said at the time were family health issues. Gumbel was the studio host for CBS since returning to the network from NBC in 1998.

Greg Gumbel, a veteran of CBS Sports who spent more than 50 years in sports broadcasting, has died of cancer at the age of 78, his family said Friday.
Selection Sunday and NCAA coverage will take a while to get used to for the next few years.
Gumbel was an icon.

Oh shit… 💩 I didn’t hear that… thanks for the post I always liked him and I think he had a twin brother or something? He was very good at what he did and will be sorely missed.
