Did this kid experience a growth spurt in the past year or so? Caught a couple minutes of the Wisconsin game before Iowa tipped off and was shocked at how tall/long this kid looked going up against Syracuse. Thought he was closer to 6'6 or so back in high school...but he looks like a true post out there. Wondering if we missed out on a good one?

Nice win for Wisconsin on the road...just when you start to think Wisconsin is going to be down, the Badgers remind everyone why they've been in the top four of the B1G for over a decade.

When has the Wisconsin bench been deep?
Perhaps beauty is the eye of the beholder.
Great win on the road against Syracuse.

Wisconsin is going to keep getting better and better as the season goes on.

Just watched a few minutes this game here and there but very impressed with Happ. Almost odd to see a guy who has post footwork these days.

They compared him to Kevin McHale lol. McHale would have averaged 30 + points a game today in college against guys who have never seen real post moves.

I still predict Wisconsin ends up out of the top four in the Big Ten this year.

And yes, Happ looks pretty good doesn't he. :) Would have been nice to have him against Duke last year, wouldn't it have been, Ryan? o_O

He could have grown an inch or more, he was 6-7 or 6-8 coming out of Taylor Ridge, Il....if Bo wants to recruit Illinois small school players, more power to him, Iowa needs more athletic players then Ethan. Glad Iowa passed on him.

Happ had 18 and 15 with 3 blocks on the road against Syracuse, known for their athletic frontline players. As a redshirt freshman. Yeah, Happ isn't good enough or athletic enough because of the small town he grew up in... Your hatred for all things Illinois and Wisconsin is blinding you from the truth.

They didn't compare him to McHale, they pointed out his post move was one of McHale's favorites.

That includes an awfully broad population of Midwest basketball talent. A lot of these "small school players", like Happ, Sam Decker and other all conference caliber players play AAU. I'm not sure Fran would limit his recruiting that way.

Didn't we offer Happ. He would have been a nice fit for our team this year, play PF and allow Uthoff to play SF.

I recall we were still evaluating him when he committed to Wisconsin, which he did fairly early.

Depends I think the difference between 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th this year will be slim. I would say Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan and Northwestern are all playing at about the same level. Illinois could join the fray if they can ever all get healthy at the same time. I think Iowa, Wisconsin and Northwestern are most likely to improve as the season goes on.

I remember a story last year where Bo was quoted saying in practices Happ at times looked like the best player on the team. High praise considering the talent Wisconsin had last year.

Ah, but for the third time on this board I must post.........look at Wisconsin's schedule. If you truly believe 4th to 8th is that close...Wisconsin is in deep doo doo.

They have a very tough schedule but the also could end up having a better starting 5 then all but the top 3 teams in the league in another couple weeks. If Happ gets consistent along with Brown who is starting to find his groove this team could do some damage. Iowa doesnt have that easy of a schedule either. They are one key injury away from tanking however. They match up well with every team outside of MSU and Purdue. Outside of them quality depth is a concern for most of the other B1G teams this year including Iowa and last night Wisconsin showed they can wear another quality team down late in games only running with 6 guys.

You're glad Iowa passed on a player that is averaging 11 and 8 as a freshman and just put up 18 & 16 at Syracuse?

That's why you aren't a coach I guess.

I only saw a few min, but Happ looked really good. Bo will have Wisky in the top 4 or 5. I don't recall Iowa passing on Happ, but I could be wrong.

I believe we were recruiting Happ but had not yet offered when Wisconsin did and he committed.

Oddly enough his other two offers were Green Bay and Milwaukee. Which makes me wonder if he was performing in a game up in Wisconsin or something before the offer?

I predict Wisconsin will NOT be a top 4 Big Ten this season!
