In March, 2024, Gumbel missed his first NCAA tournament since 1997 due to what he said at the time were family health issues. Gumbel was the studio host for CBS since returning to the network from NBC in 1998.

Greg Gumbel, a veteran of CBS Sports who spent more than 50 years in sports broadcasting, has died of cancer at the age of 78, his family said Friday.
Selection Sunday and NCAA coverage will take a while to get used to for the next few years.

I'm not from Michigan...I went to Michigan for school...born and bred in NYC and returned (with stints living in Europe, the South, South West, DC and even Ohio)...our paths crossed in NYC...has zero to do with Michigan
