OT: Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz faces an unusual rival: his neighbors

Why is that funny? I had to work for school clothes and everything I ever had. He's loaded and retired at fifty. My friends had that in their engines alone probably. My friends parents also paid for college and some helped with their first house.

I guess $5000 is a large amount of money to your white trash ass. Back to ignore you jealous retard.

It's not my fault you're parents never amounted to shit. I should say your mother, I'm sure you never knew you're dad.
LOL you're a nut. Also obvious you're unhappy about something in your life. Goon

Pot meet kettle. All you bring to every board is negativity. You're not liked and add nothing to every forum you visit. You're sad and I have sympathy for your pathetic self.

Stop chasing me around, weirdo. I'm sorry you don't have my life.

Holy S....I'm not going to spill everything I've ever heard about him on here. Cannot believe everyone rushing to the defense over a .580 coach who should be long gone by now. And how am I being dishonest by giving my opinion? forget about the subsidized housing if you want.....sheeeesh....but the guy does not deserve sainthood fro giving about 1/100th of his money...maybe less...whilst underachieving for said money.

Nobody asked you to spill anything. You have just done a poor job of supporting your premise. Keep working at it, I am sure what you are trying to say about your dislike for KF makes sense in your head, you just present it poorly.

I'm glad to know that. I was disappointed to read it, but we all know about misquotes and poor reporting.

Thanks for that. ;)

It's hard to imagine her saying that at all. She is genuine and kind and sincere. If you didn't know who she was, you'd never know from her actions or words. Say what you will about Kirk as a coach but as a person, he is the same on camera as he is in person.

After years of simply reading some of the good and bad, this comment got me to confirm my account and make my first post. At some point will people understand that Kirk Ferentz brings in millions of dollars to the State of Iowa and the University of Iowa, not annually, but weekly during the football season. That is confirmation enough of why he is paid what he is paid. If you don't like it - become the head coach at a major institution.

Secondly, the comment about "Do you know who I am" is more than likely a statement regarding that he is one of the most visible citizens in the state. Why do you think they moved there - to have freaking privacy. It was not about arrogance but a realistic reason why they might not want the area to become more traveled. Would you want people to know where you live knowing there are idiots out there looking to cause trouble. Good God stop looking for negative crap when it's just not there!

Fair comments but you may want to back off a bit on the highlighted. Kirk did not invent IOWA football. He's a respected head coach but he's not the Steve Jobs of college football.

Has anyone (besides me) looked at that road on Google Maps. The last 3 houses are huge - two that look like traditional houses and one that looks like NASA headquarters. Very modern (i,e, strange). Anyone know which house is KF's?

------The guy just gave a Million dollars to the hospitals last year. Piss off.

Then why was he trying to get his kid into subsidized housing? It is fact, so call me whatever you want. Not poo pooing his donating, but wouldn't you agree that his donating has added in a MAJOR way to his goodwill and willingness to keep him around long enough to bag another truckload of millions? Lets be honest, the guy should have been fired following 2014....and even years before that.
Let's be honest here, you just want KF fired, and this was just a way of trying to get your foot in the door. It's stupid. The neighbors went to the media whining, kind of tells me all you need to know about them. If you look at his facebook page, his kids all look to be in highschool. I'm sure they are good people, but the whole bike thing seems like a weird argument now. As far as the BF housing issue, I don't understand why people get that upset about this. Do you really think KF was trying to SAVE money by having BF live there? Does KF hand his kids money? I don't know. Nobody knows what happened behind the scenes. Maybe BF told his dad, he wanted to live with his teammates, and Kirk was like, uh ok. Did KF even know it was HUD? Would people have been happier if KF bought a big ass mansion and housed the players there? Several years of college we lied to our landlords and housed 5 people in a 3 bedroom in order to make it cheaper. Our parents all had money, but they weren't giving us any. I understand it looks bad, but it makes 0 sense that KF was like "Yeah Brian, live in the low income housing to save me some money!" "Things are tight right now!"

Since you skipped over my post earlier, please provide your evidence that KF had anything to do with Brian or his roommates attempting to get into public housing 15 YEARS AGO. I would imagine you didn't respond because your search would have been a waste of time. This was a deal a bunch of college kids cooked up, and nothing to do with KF, but please keep trying to put your spin on it.

So... the lady wanted to pave the road to make it more "safe" for her kids to ride a bike down. Apparently she doesn't realize that replacing a potholed gravel road with a nice paved road will inherently increase vehicles' speed while traveling down said road.

Great reasoning lady.

Vehicles have better traction on paved roads than they do gravel roads. Vehicles are "inherently" safer on paved roads than they are on gravel roads. If vehicles are safer on paved roads, bike riders would be safer as well.

Not to mention that it's a short dead end residential road so paving it would have no effect on traffic.

KF nor UI was involved in placing BF or any scholarship athletes at Pheasant Ridge; there is no here here.

It's hard to believe this merits 2 page OT thread; as it certainly has nothing to do with football. And, as usual, many posts stray aimlessly that are not related to the subject. Focus folks and on something that matters and about football.

IMHO, enough rambling.

I get that you want to live as “remote” as possible, but I don’t think gravel will deter “stalkers and gawkers”.

I took the you know who I am comment as MF basically saying they draw a lot of attention. Unwanted attention in the neighborhood.

All four lots have plenty of space to ride bikes. The money they pay a year in association fees for road upkeep and maintenance they each could have their very own bike park paid off on a few years. Looking at that road, I’m not sure I’d want my kids riding their bikes on it to begin with. Besides where are they going to ride them to besides the neighbor’s house.

Mo’ money
Mo’ problems

Agreed. For the record, I really don't care one way or the other. This is rich people drama. I don't understand why it's a big deal to Kirk and Mary that the road remain graveled. At the same time, I don't care about someone else's kid skinning their knee riding a bike.

Regardless of KF's record and his history of being a coach has ZERO bearing on the fact that the courts ruled in his favor and if you read the article they even denied the appeal of the neighbors. So basically all the neighbors are going to court over is planted trees and landscaping. Oh the humanity what an awful person he is....

As for your last part KF has given over 1/100th of his $. Unless he is worth over a $100 million which I doubt he is with just one donation of $1 million on tops of plenty other donations he's made to the U in his 19 years here. But nice try next time least get your facts straight when applying simple math.

I'll disagree. In this scenario loss of traction isn't the more dangerous factor, increased speed would be. When bikers are stuck on the highway it isn't a problem stemming from traction issues, nor would it be on a 25mph gravel road.

-----His wife was quoted as saying that. Work on your reading comprehension asshat.

Um, did I say Kirk said that? No, I didn't....quit assuming.

Lot of fickle people in here that would not be so forgiving and rushing to his defense had we went 6-6 and lost to BC...TRUST ME ON THAT!!!!

Double douche dickheads, both of you. First dude is a fan of a bad TV show only watched by 90 year olds. Second is your typical spoiled asshole who thinks he is superior to everyone, and in dong so, proves the opposite. Retard, really? The old saying about keeping one's mouth closed instead of opening it. Applies very well.

Increased speed isn't the more dangerous factor. In fact, speed is barely a factor at all. It's really only a significant factor when it comes to the survival of the struck biker. It's the driver not paying attention to what's out on the road and the condition of the road that play the biggest factors on whether or not a biker gets hit. These are the biggest reasons any accidents happen at all. The former being the largest.

Say a driver pulls his head out of his ass for a second and sees a biker they are about to hit. The speed of the vehicle being the constant between the two, whether is 25 or 55 mph. Which car is going to be able to maneuver or stop more safely to avoid hitting a biker? The driver on a paved road? Or the driver on a gravel road?

Like I said in another post, I really don't care about a pissing match between rich folks one way or the other. I don't believe the gravel road in question is that dangerous to begin with that it would warrant being paved. I also don't understand why the road remaining gravel is big deal to Kirk and Mary.

I would bet a lot of money that Mary was just trying to tell this neighbor why they value their privacy, and the neighbor was too dense and or biased, so the point Mary was trying to make flew right over his/her head.

I can see this being the case. But I can also see how someone could take the way it was said the wrong way.

The article does state, "No, you don't understand who I am,". Maybe the neighbor could be remembering incorrectly, or that's what he heard.

I guess we'll agree to disagree on this one. While I agree that distracted driving is the largest factor in biking accidents, speed plays a huge part of that when you look at speed differentials between cars and bikes, on top of decreased time to take corrective action.

I just don't see how a kid is more likely to get hit while on a bike on gravel going 20mph than a paved road going 30mph. Your biggest threats would be A) a quick entrance of a bike into the road in front of you.
B) coming around a bend with a slower bike in front of you.
In both cases, if I'm a biker, give me the slower vehicle on gravel.

Making 4 million + for years, with a .580 winning percentage says enough for me about qualifying to be fired.
