OT- Officiating in Maryland-Purdue game

I agree with you but it legally did not matter. I don't believe they blew the whistle until after the final buzzer went off. The clock stops on the whistle, not infraction.

agreed; it appeared the ref's arm did not come up until the clock hit 0.00

so why did they put .5 on the clock?

So is Maryland the new Big Ten Too Big To Fail? Makes sense considering the market. Glad Purdue pulled off possibly a millions plus heist of the Big Ten Marketing Plan.

Absolutely no clue how they came up with .5 other than that's about when the travel happened.

What is the rule exactly at end of games? What can refs do based on video evidence?

Haas got bailed out, that's for sure! Can you imagine if MD hits that game winning shot? That would have been a devastating loss, esp when it comes to Big Dance seedlings.

Well, time is out when the red square comes on. Not the clock at zero. Not the horn. So I suppose they could have ruled it was .5 from the travel to the red square coming on.

Torbee and most posters are right: the stripes did everything they could, and then some, to hand that one to the turtles. Haas and Swanigan got screwed on calls all day long. And they kept bailing out Trimble & Co. when they drove. Pathetic.

And that last call on the "travel"? WOW. For those of you old enough to remember the name, it reminded me of the Jim Bain calls against Iowa back in Lute's day. To borrow the favorite adjective coming out of today's Oval Office occupant, that call was "stupid." ;)

Congrats to our hated rivals from West Lafayette for winning anyway.

Not only that but the travel occurred at the top of 3 pt arc... ball should have been inbounded from sideline vs under the basket... this gave Maryland better shot to score using BOB play vs SOB play.

I missed the end. The last I was looking MD was shooting technical foul shots. Anyone know when this will appear,if at all, on BiG repeat"

It was on ESPN. If you go to ESPN3, you can watch the replay. Carsen Edwards drove, was fouled, and made two FT's to put Purdue ahead 73-72 with 2.1 seconds left. After the Haas fiasco, Maryland had one shot with 0.5 seconds left but freshman Kevin Huerter missed on his 3PT attempt and the game was officially over.

Maryland went scoreless from the field in the final 7:37 of the game and Purdue went on an 11-0 run. That's how they came back to win.

Here's the Replay page for today on ESPN, if you're interested in watching it:

Yep, that needs to be adressed by the league. That whistle was after the game was over, those reffs shouldn't be allowed to do that.

He definitely traveled though.
