OT, but man, what a rough time to be a West Virginia Mountaineer fan.

First you get screwed out of a bid to the NCAA tourney.
Then you lose your head coach to Indiana after only one year.
Then you try to hire Ben McCollum, but you lose him to Iowa.
Then you try to hire Jerrod Calhoun, but he decides to stay at Utah State.
Then you make a run at Richard Pitino, but he ends up at Xavier.

Now, your top contender is somebody named Ross Hodge, from North Texas??

I’d feel bad for them, if their fans hadn’t been so smug in thinking BMac would chose WVa over Iowa. So instead, I’m more like:

Love the topic as I have been paying attention to their search as well since they were a competitor to us. Allegedly.

One of the Hooked on WV guys today said that Calhoun 'must have really messed up in his interview' to not get offered the job. I suspect this is more delusion than fact. Ok. So he didn't turn them down....he wasn't offered because he messed up his interview. lol.

They’re certainly a long ways away from the days of John Bielein and Kevin Pittsnoggle.
Just read about Pitsnogle, and was fascinated by what information I saw. He did well in the NCAA tournament, but afterward, after being undrafted, (he averaged 19/game and 5.5 rebounds his senior year), he spent short stints with teams, but ended up being waived/cut both here and abroad. He ballooned to 300lbs and also became a car dealer and worked as a Special ED teacher and HS basketball coach, as well as an Assistant Principal. He had career averages of 12.5 ppg and 5.2 rebounds in the CBA and what was then called the NBA D League. He was a really good player at WVU, and he sounds like a really good guy. Thanks for mentioning him. We can learn something every day.

lol what a reality check for a program that doesn’t have much to show for it.

Let me guess....history major? B.S. in Tavern Hawk? lol

WV has more NCAA appearances than iowa.

WV has been to more Sweet Sixteens than Iowa. In fact, they've been to 7 since Iowa last made it.

Unlike Iowa they've had final four and elite eight appearances in this century -- 2005, 2010.

WV has 6 more regular season conference titles than Iowa, and 10 more conference tournament titles than Iowa.

So if WV is a program that doesn't have much to show for it, what is Iowa?

As far as the state itself, WV is gorgeous. If you like any kind of outdoor activities, it's hard to beat. If you can ever drag yourselves away from the jet set life in the cultural meccas of Ottumwa or Waterloo or Dubuque, I'd highly recommend it.

Great post.
All the people looking down at West Virginians like they're an inferior stock of humans are POS. Suppose it's a tolerated form of bigotry in the USA today bc anti white racism is popular on the Left.

Agree. The place really is absolutely gorgeous. I've climbed at Seneca and New River Gorge, and done a lot of hiking and rafting all over. Good folks there.

WVU fans act like they are a blueblood. They aren’t. When you use Iowa basketball as a barometer, that’s surely saying something.

But the idea that McCollum would ever consider going to lowly Iowa over the prestigious Mountaineer program was inconceivable to their fans (and also you from the sounds of it).

So the program you think so highly of is getting passed over by every person they reach out to. News flash, there’s a reason for that. I’m sorry to you and your fellow Mountaineer fans. Maybe you’ll get lucky and find another Huggy in the rough.

WV is a great state. For every “hick” in WV, there are equal in my beloved state of Iowa. They dig coal and we farm and neither are hickworthy. Just hard workers. The Mountaineers have a great University and have every right to feel bad about how things have transpired. DeVries admitted to talking to Indiana since basically November and seemingly played games to get Tucker acted shirt. Indiana tampered and nothing will happen. I hope they get a better coach and dominate for years. The campus has a lot to offer and my guess is those ragging on WV have never been.

But, but, but….they have way more money, way better NIL and way better facilities than all these poverty programs!!!!!! Every domino that falls makes me lol. They’re now losing players and recruits left and right.

Not to mention who is the greatest basketball player either university has ever produced? Jerry West by a mile.

Look, we all love our University and have a lot of pride in it. But arrogance about it is completely unwarranted.

Exactly.

If Iowa and Duke were fighting to get a coach and Duke fans wanted to talk trash about Iowa’s basketball program, that’s a different story. But to try and pretend like WVU is some vastly superior program is laughable.

So they’re allowed to be and we aren’t …got it

Bottom line IOWA > WV in everything other than moonshine, we’ll give’m that one

Reading comprehension issues? Show me where I said they are allowed to be arrogant. I just said we shouldn't be. Also, based on the above listings, do they have a right to be arrogant over us in basketball? Yeah, the stats bear that out. And beyond moonshine, which state do you think has more natural beauty? You may need to adjust your "Bottom line".

I think you need to reread the OP...they are the ones (online) being arrogant d'bags in the way they mocked the chances he'd choose Iowa over their "premier" bball program. You seem to support their argument with your comment about the 'greatest player produced comment' ...but good to know you weren't.

^^^^^^three drinks in...posted from dive in Cedar Falls.
Says the guy who thinks he’s a worldly traveler because he’s ventured to the backwoods of WV.

No one is arguing WV doesn’t have some beautiful parts. So does Alaska and I don’t want to live there. WV consistently ranks towards the bottom of rankings when it comes to healthcare, education, livability, etc. But who cares about those things when the hiking is great and you can go rafting!

Yes. I posted about WV, so obviously that is the only place in the world I've ever traveled to.

You're a polymath, aren't you?

How's the livability in that trailer in Lamoni? Lots of great hiking around there...

Have another. It's 5:00 somewhere, bro.

For someone who defends WV so much, it certainly sounds like it. We get it, you and the ex-wife honeymooned there and had a nice time. Good for you!

Chin up, you’ll make it to the Corn Palace someday.

What a weird hill to die on 😂

Not defending WV so much as laughing at Iowans who think they live in some kind of economic/cultural utopia, and Iowa fans who apparently think we're on par with Kentucky or Duke basketball.

Every pissant feels like a king if they can sh*t on someone else, I guess.

Knock yourself out...your majesty.

Well said. But there is a difference between Morgantown and Iowa City. I’ve been to both many times for different reasons. Cool college towns. But Iowa City is much more charming, cultured progressive, and eclectic in style and sensibilities. Especially with its emphasis on writing, communications, and the arts. Not saying that’s better or worse, but the vibes in each community are drastically different in my opinion.

Yes. Every place is not exactly like every other place.

Yet.
