Any word if the athletic departments thinks they could hit 40,000? Man I hope so!! That would be a serious number.
They've said all along that
normal walkups for a wrestling meet are like 4,000 (?) (I'm not going to look up the old posts), and that is for a 10k meet. If the same percentage holds true, they are looking at more like 8,000 in walkups, making 40,000 feasible.
I'm not sure I agree with that, as the
normal walkups likely jumped on board immediately in order to get in the first 15,000 and the best seats, but there will definitely be walkups. From people already planning to walk up to those who will be talked in to it by others at their tailgate, there will be walkups. Ticket office, apparently, sent out an email encouraging people to buy online because the lines at Kinnick might be long, which is a great sign.
I think they just break 40k, which is insanely impressive and exciting. See you there. Talk all your fellow tailgaters in to going as well, there really won't be a bad seat and many will be watching it on the screens anyways. If you/they haven't been to a meet before, it is unlike most others in that Iowa fans are incredibly knowledgeable about the rules and get very, very loud. By far the loudest event I've ever been to was a wrestling meet in Carver. Even a 3/4 full Kinnick won't rival that, but it will get intense.
