Owen Freeman

If Freeman continues to play well, then he ought to averages 30 mpg but he probably won't because
I don't think Fran will want to cut PT for PMAC or Krikke minutes much. Sandfort is best shooter and plus defender, so hard to keep off the court. It would seem Pryce Sandfort and Dimbele will probalby have their minutes cut in B1G play along with Harding. Harding is not shooting well.

The top7 is the current starters + Josh Dix and Freeman.

for his size payton is probably our best rebounder as well. He seems to really have a nose for where the ball is coming off the rim on misses

A pattern for Fran, doesn't want to give a young talented player minutes due to reasons....

Be some game in the future where Fran will say, should have got Freeman more minutes

I like Sandfort a lot, but he's not the best defender on the team. I think the best perimeter defender today is Dix. He was good last year. He's excellent today. The best interior defender is Freeman. I wish Fran was more defensive minded because Freeman and Dix would be starting today. A starting lineup of Dix, Freeman, Krikke, Perkins, and Sandfort would be better defensively and offensively IMO. You're losing a true PG, but Dix brings more on both ends today than Bowen does. He had a bad turnover yesterday, but he still has a 4-1 assist to turnover ratio and his EFG% is nearly 80%!!! If Fran can get him to be a little more aggressive look out.

Question about the first block. Why was there no goaltending called? He grabbed the rim with his left hand when the ball was pinned against the glass.
Not really. He hit the ball on its upwards trajectory before it hit the backboard.

Tony P said in the postgame with Dolph he bounce passed on the fast break hoping Owen could dunk on North Florida. But looking at that replay I really wished Tony would have threw it up for him.

That's some Garza-esque hustle from Owen coming back down the court though in transition. That sequence was the loudest Carver has been this season for the men's team.

Will be interesting when he goes up against Edey. Played well vs Creighton big man. But Purdue guy is a bulldozer.
At the worst, it will be a great learning experience. I enjoy watching Edey play. It would great if the freshman holds his own against him for a huge Hawkeye road win.

Tony is up there when he's on, but then he has games where be should be sitting next to Fran. That hardly says "best player on the team"....
I think I agree with this. Tony is really talented and can absolutely dominate a game, but he's still pretty inconsistent.

I don't know about that. Woodbury, Cook, and Garza all started at the 5 as freshmen.

I do agree Fran will say that though.

I mentioned this before. Sub out Bowen and Pmac for Dix and Freeman and you've got a dynamite starting 5.
Freeman starting 5, Krikke starting 4, and Sandfort starting 3 seems automatic to me. And Tony P/Bowen/Dix/Brock are all dynamic.

I liked Pat off the bench last season. The best part of Pat's game is him being the front man in the 1-2-2 press. Like last night, if it's working like it was in the 2nd half Iowa can bury any opponent in 4 minutes.

If Fran can dial in these lineups I think they've got a legit team.

Have expressed my dislike for having Payton, Patrick, and Krikke all on the floor at same time. Having Freeman playing near 30 mins. Helps prevent that bad defensive lineup on the floor as much as possible.
Winner ! Winner ! Chicken dinner.

I love Freeman to death, but let's remember he's still a FRESHMAN and not superman or even Luka for that matter. Don't built him up to be something he isn't, at least not yet. Against lesser teams he'll give you games like on Wednesday and could struggle against Big Ten teams. Give him more games then 7 before anointing him the best player on the Iowa team.

it will be interesting to see if his minutes increase vs Purdue

And then the 10 minutes neither is on the floor? Fortunate not to see ton of foul trouble there, but that will likely change as they head to Big 10 play. You need your best players on the court as much as possible, but what is the back up plan?
They obviously don't need to play all 30 together.

Krikkes minutes aren't as important anyway, what's important is that if Fran truly wants to maximize potential this year he needs Freeman on the court as many minutes as possible.

That means less of Patrick and Krikke because you can't sit Sandfort either.

And whether he can keep from hitting the bench in the first half after Fran's 2 foul threshold.
Being as young as Iowa is and that Iowa plays defense like avoiding poison ivy walking in the woods, 13.5 point underdogs surprises me. I'd be ecstatic if Iowa only lost by 13 or 14 points, but who knows, losing at Creighton by 8 was an eye opener for me.

Agree with all of this.

I like Pryce and Harding but they really don't need to be seeing many minutes this year.

Harding might have a very good career but he's not the same as the other 3 today.

correct, if I had to lose a player right now for injury: tony or owen.. tony all day long.

Freeman is a case study for what to look at in recruiting profiles. Rating agencies had him as a 3 star prospect and perhaps the 30th ranked power forward, and well outside the top 150 nationally. Then you look at his offers and it's a who's who of top B1G programs, one of the best looking offer lists of any recruit that Fran has landed. The schools saw something that all of the services were missing. I always put much more stock into offers vs stars in football and basketball because offers almost always give a better picture of a recruit's potential.
