Pastor says women shouldn’t wear shorts

orlvme4v02061.jpg

I remember girls at my elementary school couldn't wear shorts for religious reasons (I want to say Jehovah's Witness, but I could be wrong).

Without digging in deep to the full story, wth got a pastor into where talking about this specific subject was applicable?

I mean, sure. Religious brain bubbles and all that were probably on full display. But still...

The hilarious thing about far right evangelicals is how much they hate Muslims. Their brands of social conservatism aren’t far apart at all. If the crazy wing of Christianity was not so wrapped up in the divinity of Jesus and their hatred of brown people they could put together one helluva voting bloc.

Not that I’m complaining…I don’t want to live in a regressive sharia state.

That's the kind of Leviticus-type oppression I grew up with. When I hit my teen years I told my mom that Baptists would go to heaven first. She asked why. I said the dead in Christ will rise first.

Women couldn't wear pants, men couldn't wear earrings or have long hair. Legalists need take a class on understanding the old and new covenants. Instead, they'd rather behave like Carnegie from the Book of Eli.

Excuse the language. Just making a point.

Who goes to these types of “churches”?

And we wonder why Americans aren’t loyal churchgoers anymore. The reason is obvious.

Let's be fair this is far outside of the ordinary, not something that is widely supported.

And it's ridiculous. Even if she's naked you don't get to just rape anyone that trips your fancy.

I mean by that same logic a guy could cheat on his wife all he wanted to just cause she was there. Does this guy also want to excuse adultery?

I realize that old misogynistic codger isn’t ordinary, I’m just shocked that there’s a congregation there at all. If I was in a house of worship and those types of statements were being made I’d get up and walk out, and I might make a bit of a scene in the process.

Yeah, seems like the church that the one in The Kingsmen was modeled after.

I would walk out too.

And if it was a LCMS church I would have reported him immediately to his regional vice president.

My mom and her siblings grew up in this nonsense. No music, no dancing... My grandfather only turned on the radio at noon during hurricane season to listen to the weather. He chased me with his belt on multiple occasions because I wouldn't sit for him to read the bible to me.

Only if she is wearing shorts.

While I agree it is out of the ordinary, there seems to be a lot more of this recently in churches and religion.

Gotta love behavior modification.

I would argue the overall trend is the church is becoming more liberal as time goes on.

The reason it feels like there is more of this is simply due to social media and the fact that every occurrence now gets spread & amplified worldwide.

My wife and I were driving to DC and we stopped in Martinsburg, WV because a friend of hers lived there. The friend's husband worked at a church there, so we went to the service...they wouldn't let us in because I didn't have a suit/tie, and my wife had too short of a dress (it was at the bottom of her calf).

So yeah, I can attest that people like that pastor in the OP exist. Are they common? I hope not, but I've seen them with my own eyes.

What church was that? I grew up there.

I looked on Google, it's been a while but from the general area and what I remember of the church (it was around 2010 we stopped), I'm thinking it was Shenendoah Baptist Bible Church, but I'm not 100% on it.
