So much talk about Lee, lets look at another kid. Downey has wrestled some good kids. He has beaten Logan Storley. He won a Juco title. Goes to ISU and is a All-American. Was 7-0 last year before being dismissed. He is 24 years old wrestling some young kids. He could fill a hole at 184.

1.) What is his ceiling?
2.) Why would Iowa accept a kid who has been kicked off his team for breaking team rules and throwing Jackson under the bus?
3.) What is your reaction to having him on this team?
4.) How soon until we see him?

I have a job, a wife (no pic), and a life. I don't have time to read ever single post on a message board. I care because I am a Iowa Wrestling fan? Why do you respond to posts?

You don't have time to use a search function?

The negativity, smart @ss remarks, sarcasm, and outright trolling doesn't help with getting more people to wrestling forums and hopefully more involved as wrestling fans. In the time you take to respond to this post could easily be helping the person out with information.

The inability of people to try and actually be helpful can make this forum hard to read.

Don't know what my reaction is to him wrestling for us, because it hasn't happened and nobody affiliated with the team has confirmed it will definitely will happen, so far as I know.

To answer your question, no one knows. Last week McDonough said on the radio that PD3 was still working on getting into grad school but other than that he knew nothing. Everything beyond that, when he will wrestling, what weight, is all speculation.

There, I summarized all the PD3 threads without even mentioning the tweetosphere.

Do you get notifications every time someone post on here? Do you sit all day on this forum? Go spend time with your children. I am not interested in reading every topic, to find direct answers to my questions. Especially when it doesnt answer them all. You don't have to respond, or read. It is ok. There is more to life then a message board. Turn your wifi off and go shovel snow or something.

I spend a tremendous amount of time with my kids. Thanks for being my life coach asshole!

Pretty sure Iowa will have to start the second semester before he can actually be eligible to participate. When I was a freshman there, Sam Okey wasn't eligible for basketball until second semester after transferring from Wisconsin, and had to wait until classes were back in session to start playing. Unfortunately he broke his wrist after seven games and wasn't healthy enough to return for the NCAA tournament, so let's hope that PD3 has better luck in this case and gets to March!

One thing that stands out is him calling out Gabe Dean a year ago, saying he will not win the title. However Downey never got the chance to back it up. Downey is obviously confident. I am sure many outside of Iowa City don't like him. I hope he is able to live up to his own expectations.

It sounds crazy, but we have several kids with a chance of making the finals. Lee has beaten Suriano before. Kem made it before. Soreneson made it before. Bull is a top 5 guy, and there is always upsets. Downey has potential. Wilke is somewhat surprisingly ranked in the top 2. Stoll has a shot. If we can wrestle up to our seeds, and made ge some bonus points from Lee, who knows. Wishful thinking.

If the second semester is the hold up then we should expect a Downey debut against tOSU and Myles Martin in Columbus on January 21st. Stay tuned to the PD3 twitter account (iampatdowney) for the latest hints.

I asked a question.
A couple guys complained at my questions on here and instead of answering, or ignoring decide to get upset.
Rivals has a like button now? I dont get on here often. Is that new? Most of my posts are from years ago.
Mr dickhead? Ouch. You are so hardcore.
Glad you spend time with your kids. Ignore me, and I am sure they will appreciate it, and you wont get so worked up.

Thanks to those who actully tried to answer the questions, and to those who ignored the thread.

I believe Downey still needs to be accepted into Grad school AND then must need a WAIVER before he can become egible. That may take some time. I'm just hoping for the best outcome with this situation but not going to bank on anything other than Spencer Lee wrestling Friday. Although an elgible PDIII would enhance team trophy aspirations in March. GO HAWKS!!!!!

1.) Hard to tell, He did sort of back up the Dean talk as he beat him in freestyle this summer. I think his conditioning is going to determine his ceiling. His dedication seems like it is higher than the last few years for sure and he knows this is the last chance.
2) The juice is worth the squeeze... why did others get another chance, always easier to get another chance when you have something to offer. Long ran out of chances...this is PD3 last one and I hope he makes the most of it.
3) At first, I was one that said Pass...Now, the coaches know more than any of us and it doesn't really matter. I cheer for him and hope he has changed and stays the course.
4) Classes start back up January 16th.... I don't think anyone knows this, all I do know if he ends up on our team he will play spoiler and steal someone's ticket to NCAA's at Big 10's, of course if that have done enough in the year they still got a shot at getting in.

Doesn't need a waiver. He graduated and can wrestle anywhere he gets accepted to Grad School.

about the waiver

...If I am wrong it is different than what has been said this whole time. I know he had a waiver that excluded Iowa (I think it might have been Big 12, and Iowa DI schools) and hence why he did not transfer last semester and stayed at Iowa State. ... so this is the first I have read anywhere that a waiver is needed now.

If he had not graduated (last semester) then he would need a release for sure. I always thought nothing needed for post grad. I highly doubt he would have done all this if he was still held up by a release.

I see stoicism is not followed by many that post here.
No, but optimism is. I think someone saw PD3 in the Bermuda Triangle, or maybe it was an outline of his face in a cheese sandwich. Believe it's real when it really happens.

This would be his (3) third Division I program. I believe that's what might be a reason for concern (waiver). There is much more to this unique situation than meets the eye. Lets hope the compliance department within the U of I is busting their tail. As mentioned,
1) Necessary completion of schoolwork online
2) Grad entrance must be met
3) Waiver
4) Maintain good standing with program set forth via Brands
Nebraska (D I)-Iowa Central (JUCO)-Iowa State (D !)--Iowa (D !)
