Paul Rhodes Fired....Finally

Not a good year to be looking for a new coach. So many more attractive jobs out there.

Still, after the past few weeks...

Let's be honest, unless Lames builds an awesome practice facility, the Clowns will never find a coach that can succeed at Ia St.

Edit: Did they already build this? I'm not up to date on sucky programs.

ISU is never going to land a top guy no matter if there are 1 or 100 jobs open. It's not like if they wait a year they are going to get the Memphis coach.

Will be interesting to see what resumes come in to take over the program. Guessing ISU won't be tossing around a lot of money... Might have to find an up and comer... I liked Rhoads- the man, but he just couldn't get it done. It's a tough environment to win at on a consistent basis. And it's equally tough when the majority of programs in the Big 12 are on the way up... KSU, Kansas, and WVirgina are the only "beatable" programs... As far as ISU is concerned. Texas should be much better than it is and will eventually right the ship. Just don't see any coach coming in there and leading them to 5 or 6 wins a season on a regular basis. ISU's best bet for success is to move to a conference with not as many big-name programs. But since that won't happen any time soon, it's gonna be a long road ahead. ISU may have to settle for being like a Kansas... Just live for the basketball season and maybe hope the football program can sneak in a 6 or 7 win season every third or fourth year.

They need to go after navy's coach. Hard. They will never compete in that league doing the same thing everyone else does. They need a guy that will burn clock keep cakes close and be a matchup nightmare for everyone else.
You will also be avoiding fights for the same recruits.

outside of three years his entire coaching history is at Navy I doubt he leaves for ISU.

Not a bad idea. I doubt the guy would come to ISU though. Maybe a Paul Johnson (GA Tech) disciple? I agree they would be better off finding a gimmick.

guessing they go after Fleck from W Michigan but they will need to wait in line due to all the other openings. They will end up with

They don't need a gimmick, but they should take cues from the their geographic peers (Minn, Iowa, and Wisconsin) and adopt a power-run oriented team. They are never going to out athlete the southern schools and beat them in a pass-happy/blitz game. All the third-tier Florida recruits in the country won't help. So they need to play clock game, conservative defense, and develop strong lines. I think Minnesota is the blueprint. Get some lineman, a big and strong running qb, do a bunch of pre-snap shifting, and run the ball.

I wasn't thinking " top guy". More like "guy who gives them a prayer of rising to mediocrity", mediocrity being bowl eligible more often than not.

Don't help them.

Feel bad for his staff, tough lifestyle. Paul will get several million dollars to not work.

I would love to see someone run the wish bone there. They'd have a better chance recruiting that style than be the eighth choice for Texas spread recruits.

Openings: Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa State, Maryland, Miami, Missouri, North Texas, South Carolina, UCF, ULM, USC, Virginia Tech.

If they had any brains they'd hire someone that runs a pro style offense. What do we have in the midwest? Lineman. No defense in the Big 12 is built for nor wants to face a team that comes downhill at them all day. They'll probably go the stupid way again and hire a spread, zone read guy again and try and score with those teams.
