Paul Rhodes Fired....Finally

If Rhoads would have just been blown out by KSU as usual, I think he would have been fine. It would be BAU but somehow he found a new way to lose that was even more frustrating for clones.
I don't blame you for not following Iowa State football. "blown out by KSU as usual" couldn't be further from the truth. Six of the last seven KSU-ISU games have been decided on the final possession or two, and KSU won all six. Bill Snyder's pact with Satan is difficult to beat.

I don't think Rhoads could have survived finishing with losses to Kansas State and West Virginia. Had we won Saturday and played competitively against the Sister-Kissers, he might have gotten another year. But losing the way we did certainly made things much, much worse, and made Jamie's decision a lot easier.

One person saying we shouldn't have fired Rhoads and then everyone else saying it needed to be done? Pretty much everyone knew Rhoads had to go but of course there are idiots in every fan base

There was more than one. Enough for the other poster to not be wrong on his statement.

Here is what we know for sure:
1. Leath will confidently state whoever isu hires that they were the only person that was targeted and offered.
2. Chrissy Williams will go on and on for days about how isu was the only school to get their coaching hire right.

Oh and clone fans will eat it up and ask for more.

On a personal note I did feel for Paul today. His emotion said a lot about him and he handled himself with dignity.

I think pretty much all ISU fans wanted it to work out with him. Had his moments on the sidelines but he was a genuine guy that really wanted to succeed at ISU but at the end of the day it's about winning football games and it was time to try someone new

Well, maybe should have given Rhoads 1 more year. Pretty competitive last few games or so.

I think he would have gotten another year if not for the decisions at the end of the last two games......especially at Manhattan.

Hell of a thing, though. He said in his remarks today that the team will go bowling next season and he wishes he could be a part of it. I think he's right. And non, it wasn't an inappropriate thing for him to say in the context of his response to questions.

Reminds me a lot of Mac's departure. Nobody wanted it, everybody felt shitty about it, and just about everybody agreed it had to be done.

Will be interesting to see what resumes come in to take over the program. Guessing ISU won't be tossing around a lot of money... Might have to find an up and comer... I liked Rhoads- the man, but he just couldn't get it done. It's a tough environment to win at on a consistent basis. And it's equally tough when the majority of programs in the Big 12 are on the way up... KSU, Kansas, and WVirgina are the only "beatable" programs... As far as ISU is concerned. Texas should be much better than it is and will eventually right the ship. Just don't see any coach coming in there and leading them to 5 or 6 wins a season on a regular basis. ISU's best bet for success is to move to a conference with not as many big-name programs. But since that won't happen any time soon, it's gonna be a long road ahead. ISU may have to settle for being like a Kansas... Just live for the basketball season and maybe hope the football program can sneak in a 6 or 7 win season every third or fourth year.
Maybe they could play a schedule like ours with 7 loosing teams. WHY THE HATE? Cheer our HAWKS and respect the littlebrother.

Worst thing that happened to Rhoads and ISU was big 12 going to 9 games. Use to be avoided OU and Texas every 2 years and have 3 easy non conf opponents and get 3 conference games to get to a bowl. Now only get 2 easy non conf games which Rhoads has managed to lose at least one last 3 years. Plus perennial cellar dwellers Kansas and Baylor is now just Kansas.
Sounds like the east - west big ten. That is why we have to prove ourselves to the rest of the critics.
