Former House speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) has not hidden his antipathy toward former president Donald Trump of late, calling him a “proven loser” earlier this week.
In a new interview, Ryan took things a step further, saying he wouldn’t show up in the Republican National Convention in his home state if Trump is the party’s nominee.
Ryan hedged when asked by the WISN, the ABC affiliate in Milwaukee, what his plans are for the RNC gathering in the city next year.
“It depends on who the nominee is,” Ryan said. “I’ll be here if it’s somebody not named Trump.”
Asked if he’ll stay away if it is Trump, Ryan replied: “I’m not interested in participating in that.”
