PD3 vs Moore or Nickal?

I want to see him throw that Beaker looking Nickal on his head.

If he wrestles for Iowa, I will definitely cheer for him, but I would absolutely favor both wrestlers over him at this point.

I have yet to see Downey show a gas tank to be able to stay with Moore, especially when giving up size.

As far as Nickal goes, Downey is definitely dangerous enough to hit a big move, but he is equally susceptible to one when Nickal is the #1 current DI guy at kitchen sinking people. As a result, I would almost always call this match to end in a fall with Nickal being a 3-1 favorite to be the "pinner".

With the above said, hopefully Downey steps on the mat at midlands and shows he is rust free and the gas tank is full. Put your money where your mouth is and prove it on the mat. If that happens, I might just rethink things and pick him in March.

Get them 22 hrs done first.

If Spencer goes, then Warner goes, then PD3 @ 84.

As I type this out I realize if neither go, I'd still like to see PD3 @ 84 because I liked what I saw out if Wilke last night.

Just keep telling yourself that.
I didn't tell that to myself; The Johns Hopkins University did (play him in chess :) ). PD3 hasn't been pinned since he was in 9th grade...in the National Prep semis vs a guy you might have heard of...Mario Mason, a senior and #1 ranked high schooler in the nation...so don't think for a NY minute that Nickal is pinning PD3...that shietttt just isn't happening, pal. BTW, did you see who pinned whom in the PD3 vs Quentin Wright match? I have him beating either one...Moore or Nickal.

p.s. Did you see Nickal backout upstairs at the Open? When fresh, he'll break string bean in half. :)

I wasn't discounting his wrestling talents.

Got teched by Nickal once already, don't see it changing because it's folkstyle now.

In all honesty I don't think they ever wrestle... PD3 will not make it to Iowa.

F off, fool. Nickal hadn't wrestled a single match, but PD3 had Avery, Asper and Dean (19 minutes) BEFORE Nickal. His only training was chasing around chickens on a farm with Ben Provisor, and PD3 still took down Nickal like it was nothing...after Nickal backed out of the upper body ties. PD3 going to hammer him.

I agree with Kwood -- first things first -- but would love to see PD3 take on Nickal.

I would like to see if PD3 can keep himself straightened out get on the team and show what he can do. Bowman is fitting into 184 nicely it seems and has the tempo that the hawks need so if PD3 never gets to wrestle as a Hawk we still have a solid 184lber with a big upside.

Saw Pat hanging with Nathan Burak at the Rider meet. If I had to choose a mentor for Pat, I couldn't think of a better one than Nathan. Pat's in excellent hands with him and the rest of the HWC crew. That's a whole lot of positive influence. I'm getting to the point where I'd be surprised if things didn't work out for Pat and the Hawks in the spring, and I'm thinking he'd be a great asset to the HWC after this season.

Gotta say that this thread is WAY premature. Downey has to prove so much on the mat and off before anything happens. And then there's the mat rust.
Even if all went great for Downey, I'd still favor Moore or Nickal at this point. I'd love to see him prove me wrong.

He's on the right track and doing quite well, and he's a bright kid. I like his odds of handling the course work very much. Plus, he's spending time with some extremely high-quality people, and that has to help. As for mat rust, he's working out with some absolute studs in the HWC. I don't think that will be much of an issue. Granted, there's a difference between drilling and competition, but if he's in the lineup by January, that's plenty of time to get tuned up before March. Certainly not a guarantee, but I like his chances very much.

As for who would be favored in a match with Nickal, I guess you'd have to say Nickal at this point, but Pat is one extremely talented kid, and considering his current training environment, he'd be honing those skills for a couple of months before he ran into Nickal. I think he'd make it very interesting. Exciting, if nothing else.

I don't buy the "mat rust" comment. It's not like he hasn't been/won't be on a wrestling mat til Midlands. There will be no rust. Everyone will know what the Hawks have in Downey at Midlands.

I would agree that there's usually some rust when guys get back into actual competition, as you can never completely simulate a live match against an opponent from another team in practice, but I agree that he should be pretty sharp, considering the guys he's wrestling in practice.

I'd expect him to be more effective in March than in late December, but he should still be pretty salty by Midlands.

Nathan & Bobby T. He seemed to get along well with the guys.

Excellent influence. Interesting friendship.

You are 100% right on both. I admit I was not completely on board with Pat becoming a Hawkeye at first. Have had a couple of very good conversations with him in the last few weeks and now see why TNT made their decision. Pat is personable, likable, and IMO he is going to be a major plus for the team and do what he needs to for himself.
