Have east/west rivalries been posted before?
I thought it was odd we play PSU every year for the next 4 years, and only play MSU/OSU once. But then I noticed every team has a team they play every year from the other division. We play PSU 2-4x more than any other western opponent over the next 4 years.

Iowa/PSU
MN/MD
WI/MI
PU/IN
NW/MSU
IL/RU
NE/OSU

Not sure how I feel about this... If it continues, it means we only play 2 western teams a year, besides psu. That means MI/MSU/OSU once every 3 years. Once every 6 years at Kinnick.

I wonder who decides on these rivalries...the schools or conference?

Would have rather had Rutgers, Indiana, or Maryland, but as long as it's not Ohio State, I'm Ok with it.

I recall Delany talking about this in the last year or two. The idea was to get the best competitive teams the best slots on TV and to present compelling games to strengthen the conference as a whole. So, more Iowa/PSU and less Iowa/Indiana, at least within what they can control.

Iirc, these schedules will be rebalanced accordingly and regularly, depending on how individual teams are doing.

B1G wants the most ratings they can get out of the cross-division games. We'll see whether it works as intended. Might also be part of the suggested plan of selling some games on an individual basis to various networks as part of the new TV deal they're preparing for.

Delany decided to tier the teams when the division's went to West and East from past history from the past couple of decades. These teams will play each other more threw the 2014-2019 seasons.

Nebraska/Ohio St
Wisconsin/Michigan
Iowa/PennSt
Northwestern/ MSU
Minnesota/Maryland
Etc
Etc.

BigRedFlood post is spot on.
