Pekin community rallies around ousted superintendent, calls for entire school board to resign

I may know a little about Pekin and Hedrick and stuff being from ottumwa. what these guys ought to be careful of is this: they may just make them all go to ottumwa and just shut that whole crap down.

More political crap from small town Iowa.

Some other school district will snatch this guy up before long.

If the SI is as good as the people defending him say, then he'll land on his feet somewhere else. Pekin seems like it has some things to sort out in their community with the school board.

If I were the SI, I wouldn't go back to that mess. I'd move on.

And good luck finding a good replacement with their new reputation.
Four Supts in seven years is a massive red flag.

I assume SI positions don't open too often, so they'll get applicants. Maybe not quality applicants, but applicants.

Typical length of stay in Iowa is around five years.

Agree that someone will apply.

You are probably right - but I will say Grinnell got rid of their superintendent last year and brought in an interim for this year. Then they advertised it and the interim didn't make the finals and both that did turned down the position. So now they have hired a new interim for next year and they will try again. The current guy knew he wasn't being considered since before Christmas, so you can imagine how engaged he is.

When school boards and rogue parent groups want to get involved with curriculum choices, and then add in funding cuts/ reduced funding from the Iowa Education Dept...it's not enjoyable having to cut staff and manage a budget.

But hey...send the kids to private schools.
