Penn State vs. Lehigh - PSU showing some of their own warts

2 of them have a tough test to win the title.
Zain should Cruz unless Sorensen finds lightning.
Nickal obviously has Dean, but who do you believe is going to present the toughened obstacle for Nolf.

Damn...you guys cannot take a joke...and it's your board's inside joke.
I got the joke. I was just pointing out the application was off just a bit.
It was still just a fun day of wrestling.

The reference to the officials is as a rule of thumb I don't believe Penn State generally gets good or even average officials. The guys who did today's match did a really nice job.

They have a wrestling board? Seems like a great place for a Penn State fan to stay and talk wrestling.........................
The thread is about the Lehigh Penn State wrestling match. Always nice to know what a Hawk thinks about a Penn State match.

Yea. I-mar 165. That's for checking me. Sr moment.

I believe Nolf is every bit of a shoe in as Zain. There isn't anyone at 57 that will stop him from the being the takedown machine that he is.
Let me ask you this. Let's say you've got an extra large wad of cash in your pocket. I say I'll give you 10:1 odds if you bet that Nolf doesn't win it this year. Are you taking that bet?

PS. I'm not a betting man or pushing a bet, just asking a question.

You know, I have seen too many strange things in March to bet in any direction. I don't think the upper tier of the field is as far behind as you do but right now he is the guy. Also, beat them 20 times, never count a smith out.

Oh and Joseph won 9-5 in a comfortable, but not the "bonus point dominant" way some have expected.

I hope the statute of limitations hasn't passed for LOL-ing at this post.

Who are the "some people" out there who have picked a Penn State title based on Joseph being "bonus point dominant"? Spyker?

And is it really a "wart" for Penn State to have a freshman starter at 165 who just won a very comfortable 9-5 decision over the guy who knocked Alex Meyer into wrestlebacks at NCAAs last year?

Wrong on both counts, which is not unexpected:

1. Where did I ever say people picked a Penn State title based on Cenzo being a bonus point machine? Strawman. I simply pointed out that people would have expected Cenzo to beat that opponent by bonus and he didn't.

2. That's not the guy who beat Alex Meyer, but thanks for playing.

Really?

de·ride
dəˈrīd/
verb
past tense: derided; past participle: derided
  1. express contempt for; ridicule.
"critics derided the proposals as clumsy attempts to find a solution"
synonyms: ridicule, mock, scoff at, jibe at, make fun of, poke fun at, laugh at, hold up to ridicule, pillory; More
Wouldn't the grammatically correct way to say it be - "derode"? I don't think rided is a word.

Deride is a verb, the same as Jog. He/She Derides : He/She Jogs..... He/She derided : He/She Jogged. Rided certainly isn't a word, but we're talking about the verb deriding, not riding. ;)

Good point. But the original quote was "get ... derided;" therefore, the correct form should be "get deridden." I'm pretty sure Shakespeare used this form in his immortal line: "Get deridden to a shrubbery."

So did Romeo rid Juliet and then when he quit ridding her, she got deridden or was derode by him? This Shakespeare stuff has always been difficult for me. I think both are correct.

sounds more like Penthouse to me, but then I am old...and hated anything to do with Shakespeare. By the time we got done with MacBeth in 8th grade English class, I hated England just for being his birthplace.

I'm impressed with Suriano, but I still want to see how he does against the upper echeleon guys at 125..

At the very least there is no doubt Suriano is at least part of the Upper Echelon.

Most definitely Suriano is part of the "upper echelon."

Almost without exception, every starter Cael has is a top 10 p4p, #1 in weight class stud coming out of HS.

How does one get "derided"? Is that like you have a spiral ride on a guy and you just let him go or does it have to be a full reversal?

Here you go leftyrighty.................

I don't believe 174 (assuming Hall shirts) and 197 were top 10 p4 and #1 in weight. Otherwise, I believe you are correct.

Yes all top recruits except for 174 & 197. So 80% of PSU's lineup qualifies.
But if you think about it, 174 has Rasheed, Morelli & Hall and we're really not quite sure who it'll be come march, so let's give this weight class a 1/3 pfp #1, for now.
Total it up to get your 83%

Quit trying minimize how great a coach Carl is. It's amazing how much Suriano has developed in the six months...he wrestled zero freestyle matches and Cael's magic has worked already.

BTW, the top echelon of 125 is going to be Gilman, Dance, Lizak, Picc, Suriano, Rodriguez, Imo. I would add UNI but he always seems to be injured.

Quite true. I'd forgotten about Cael's magic coaching abilities. But now I see them.... look at Mark Hall, still in HS, beating ncaa runnerup Nolf by TF at Jr WTT's earlier this year. Some of Cael's atoms must have landed on Hall, allowing him to thrash Nolf.

Just wait until Hall gets coached by Cael... he may yet turn out to be AA caliber.

I thought it was pretty clear that Cunningham is the coaching talent and Cael is the recruiting talent at PSU.

Maybe they read HR also. My guess is everyone reads this message board. They just wanted to rub it in.

Thanks for thinking of me. :)
