People can gripe about one thing today

Eddie Podalek said the gophers were stacking the line all day with 8-9 lineman in the box. He also mentioned a few plays where there was blatant holding but not called. We are still making mistakes that have to be cleaned up. Sounded like Brents played a heck of a game.

Well, Minnesota went all in on stopping it. As a result, Stanley threw for over 300 yards so they did what they were supposed to do. If every team wants to put 8 or 9 guys in the box and we just pick them apart passing the ball I'm ok with that.
True but as a result we should probably pass a little more.
Runs: 40 for 106 yards
Passes: 39 for 314 yards
Something seems wrong here

Their offense demands some runs to sell the play action. Iowa typically doesn't do very well when the other team knows a pass play is coming. So even if the run game isn't working they still have to run a few times to keep the defense honest.

That's fine and all....as long as we dont gift-wrap 14 pts for them off turnovers..........

Maybe Minnesota has a good run D. Although, Maryland gashed them for over 300. We shall see. After seeing the teams we have on the schedule, i think we got a grinder. Hoosiers ain’t no joke, purdue is good. Maryland, definitely a good team. We got to clean up the mistakes, or we are gonna be dropping a few here. That being said, today was a good day, lets go hawks!!!!

Honestly, you could really watch both Moss and Brents get better on every series they were out there.

They stacked the box and run blitzed a lot today. However, I've felt all year our backs are missing cutback opportunities, a staple on the zone blocking scheme.

Hopefully they get better at that with experience. If they don't, they are leaving the door open for an underclassmen to come in and take their spot.

Their D played to stop the run. Stanley had some missed throws and had a complete brain fart on the int at the end of first half. Otherwise the only issue I had was the head banging against a brick wall approach that that Brian was taking in continuing to run it. Ratio of pass to run should have been more like 60:40 against that D

after last week, i'm sure their run d was top priority this week.

that said, no excuses for the weak run game today

Exactly. At this point, I would prefer Iowa to just come out and throw the ball every stinking down. If every single team is going to put 9 guys within 5 yards of the LOS and immediately play run at the first sign of a run, then just throw play action down after down. Iowa put up 48 points, so not much to really quibble with today. It's just obvious that every single opponent is going to sell out to stop the run game.

Calling BS on we only get to grip about one thing.

The Mini Mouse D effort was a classic stop the run at all costs. Nothing new. Happens several times a year.

How many were picking Iowa to throw the ball that well? Branden Smith had 5 (6?) catches that were solid to elite (where is St Sewer junior law clerk now?). Can't remember when the WR group had that many catches. But again the Golden Rodents sold out to stop the run and paid the price.

Well, Minnesota's helmets were hideous, so there's that. And they didn't sell out their stadium. And that targeting call was BS. So, there are a few more than one thing to gripe about.

To be fair, live it looked like a targeting call. I agree that it wasn’t but I didn’t think replays were crystal clear on that. I was surprised they ruled it “confirmed” vs “call stands”

I will add that Minnesota fans are pathetic. The who hates Iowa thing is something the university should be embarrassed about not celebrating. Old men with that crap printed on their ugly colored jackets. T-shirts you would expect students to wear and be funny are stupid on people that should know better. The passive aggressive is visible in Minnesota.

Also thought it strange they sell beer and wine in the stadium
